Sophie Turner

Sophie Belinda Turner is an English actress born on 21 February 1996. She made her acting debut portraying Sansa Stark in the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones (2011–2019). For her performance in the series, she received a nomination for the Young Artist Award in 2012 and an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2019.

Turner was born in Northampton, England, to Sally, a nursery school teacher, and Andrew, the managing director of an international pallet distribution company. She has two older brothers, and her twin died in utero. Moving to Chesterton, Warwickshire, at age two, she grew up in an Edwardian house near Leamington Spa. Turner began acting at three years old at the Playbox Theatre Company, later becoming a brand ambassador for the organization in 2014. She attended Warwick Prep School until age 11 and subsequently attended the independent The King's High School for Girls, receiving on-set tutoring until she was 16.

Cast as Sansa Stark in August 2009, Turner began filming in July 2010 at age 14 and went on to appear in all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. In 2013, she made her feature film debut leading the independent thriller Another Me and portrayed Adeline March in the television film The Thirteenth Tale. She was also cast in the comedy film Barely Lethal, released in 2015. Alongside screen roles, Turner narrated audiobook releases such as Lev Grossman's short story "The Girl in the Mirror" and Cassandra Clare's City of Heavenly Fire in 2014.

Turner expanded her film work by portraying the mutant Jean Grey in the X-Men film series, starring in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019). In 2017, she was cast to produce and star in the film Girl Who Fell From the Sky, and she filmed the independent feature Heavy in 2018. Her later projects included the thriller television series Survive (2019), a minor appearance as Erica in the teen black comedy film Do Revenge (2022), and the title role of diamond thief Joan Hannington in the ITV drama Joan (2024). She was also cast to play Lara Croft in Amazon Prime Video's live-action series Tomb Raider.

In addition to acting, Turner appeared in campaigns for Karen Millen and Louis Vuitton, and became Wella Hair's first international brand ambassador in 2017. She hosted the web series Powershift in 2016, became a patron for Women for Women in 2017, joined the cultural advisory board of Colossal Biosciences, and spoke at South by Southwest London in June 2025. In her personal life, she married American singer Joe Jonas in 2019, with whom she shares two daughters; their divorce was finalized in September 2024. Turner has also spoken publicly about having combined type attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
