Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh Bhavnani, born on July 6, 1985, is an Indian actor who works primarily in Hindi films. Recognized for his performances across diverse film genres, he is one of the highest-paid actors in India and has been featured on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list since 2012. Over the course of his career, Singh has received numerous accolades, including five Filmfare Awards. Beyond acting, he is a prominent brand endorser and has contributed as a musical performer to a film soundtrack.

Singh was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra, to Anju and Jagjit Singh Bhavnani into a Sindhi family that relocated from Karachi during the partition of India. His paternal grandmother was the actress Chand Burke. After studying at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai, Singh attended Indiana University Bloomington in the United States, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications in 2008 with a minor in theatre. Upon returning to Mumbai, he worked as an advertising copywriter and an assistant director before embarking on an acting career. He professionally dropped his surname Bhavnani to shorten his screen name.

Singh made his feature film debut as the lead in Yash Raj Films' romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), winning the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He followed this with roles in the romantic comedy Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011) and the drama Lootera (2013). His career expanded significantly through his collaborations with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, starting with the romantic tragedy Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), which earned Singh a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He subsequently starred in the action feature Gunday (2014) and the ensemble comedy-drama Dil Dhadakne Do (2015).

Singh established his standing as a leading actor with further Bhansali period dramas, playing Peshwa Bajirao I in Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Sultan Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat (2018). Both productions were major commercial successes, earning him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor, respectively. During this period, he also starred in the romantic comedy Befikre (2016) and played the title character in the action comedy Simmba (2018), a role he later repeated in Rohit Shetty's Cop Universe.

In 2019, Singh starred as an aspiring street rapper in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and earned him another Filmfare Best Actor award. He hosted the television game show The Big Picture in 2021 and received a third Filmfare Best Actor award for portraying cricketer Kapil Dev in the sports drama 83 (2021). Following commercial setbacks with Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022) and Cirkus (2022), he returned to commercial success with the romantic comedy Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) and the two-part spy thriller epic Dhurandhar (2025) and Dhurandhar: The Revenge (2026).

Off-screen, Singh is noted for his distinct fashion sense. He is married to his frequent co-star Deepika Padukone, with whom he has a daughter, Dua, born in 2024.
