Keiko Kitagawa

Keiko Kitagawa is a Japanese actress and former commercial model who gained public attention through her work in fashion magazines and television. Managed by Stardust Promotion, she first established her presence in the entertainment industry as a magazine model before transitioning fully into acting, appearing in numerous Japanese film and television productions.

Kitagawa was born on August 22, 1986, in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, and grew up in Kobe. As a child, she experienced the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake, during which she lost many friends. Although she initially aspired to become a doctor, her focus shifted during high school when she was scouted by a talent agency. Her parents permitted her to enter the entertainment field on the condition that she put her studies first and step away if she made no progress within a year. She subsequently moved to Tokyo for her career and graduated from Meiji University in March 2009.

Within a week of joining her agency, Kitagawa was selected as both a model and an actress. She was named Miss Seventeen in 2003 and served as an exclusive model for Seventeen magazine from late 2003 until September 2006, where she also authored a regular feature called Keiko's Beauty Honey. Kitagawa began her professional acting career playing Rei Hino (Sailor Mars) in the live-action television series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon from 2003 to 2004. Following her appearance in the film Mamiya Kyōdai, director Yoshimitsu Morita influenced her decision to leave modeling to focus entirely on acting.

Kitagawa made her international film appearance in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in 2006, traveling to California for filming and later returning to study English for a few months. She subsequently took on leading film roles in Cherry Pie, Dear Friends, After the Flowers, and Matataki. Her additional film credits include Mizu ni Sumu Hana, Sono Toki ha Kare ni Yoroshiku, Southbound, Heat Island, Handsome Suit, Orion in Midsummer, I'll Pay, and Elevator to the Scaffold.

Her television career expanded with her first leading drama role in Mop Girl in late 2007. In 2008, she starred as the heroine in Fuji Television's Monday 9pm summer drama Homeroom on the Beachside. She went on to secure prominent roles in series such as Buzzer Beat, Moon Lovers, Lady Saigo no Hanzai Profile, The After-Dinner Mysteries, Akumu-chan, Hero, and Detective versus Detectives. In 2016, Kitagawa won the Japanese Television Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Ie Uru Onna.

In addition to acting, Kitagawa wrote a weekly column titled Keytan Hakusho for Weekly The Television magazine from May to December 2007. She married singer-songwriter Daigo in 2016. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in September 2020, and their second child, a son, in January 2024.
