Scott Adkins

Scott Edward Adkins is an English actor and martial artist who established himself in action cinema. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the Russian prison fighter Yuri Boyka in Undisputed II: Last Man Standing (2006). Over his career, he has combined extensive martial arts expertise with screen acting across international productions, direct-to-video releases, and major Hollywood films.

Born on 17 June 1976 in Sutton Coldfield, Adkins grew up in a family of butchers. His interest in combat sports began at age ten after visiting a local judo club with his father and older brother. At thirteen, he started practicing taekwondo, eventually earning his black belt at the age of nineteen. He expanded his training into judo, kickboxing, capoeira, Krav Maga, Jeet Kune Do, and Wushu. During his youth, he drew inspiration from figures such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Steven Seagal.

Adkins began his professional acting career on British television, appearing in series such as Dangerfield, City Central, Doctors, EastEnders, Mile High, and Holby City. He was subsequently discovered by director Stephen Tung and film expert Bey Logan, leading to opportunities in Hong Kong action cinema. Early film roles included Extreme Challenge, The Accidental Spy, Black Mask 2: City of Masks, and The Medallion. During this era, he collaborated with prominent Hong Kong filmmakers and action choreographers, including Yuen Woo-ping, Corey Yuen, Sammo Hung, and Jackie Chan.

His breakthrough as a featured action performer came with his work in Special Forces (2003) and Unleashed (2005), followed by his defining role as Yuri Boyka in Undisputed II: Last Man Standing. Adkins returned to the character in Undisputed III: Redemption (2010) and Boyka: Undisputed (2017). His first starring vehicle was as Casey Bowman in the American martial arts release Ninja (2009), a role he reprised in Ninja: Shadow of a Tear (2013). He went on to lead numerous action projects, such as Close Range, Savage Dog, Accident Man, Triple Threat, Avengement, Legacy of Lies, Castle Falls, and Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday.

Alongside his direct-to-video work, Adkins built a presence in mainstream studio productions. He shared the portrayal of Weapon XI with Ryan Reynolds in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and appeared in films including The Bourne Ultimatum, The Tournament, Zero Dark Thirty, The Legend of Hercules, Ip Man 4: The Finale, Day Shift, and John Wick: Chapter 4. He frequently worked alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, co-starring in The Shepherd: Border Patrol, Assassination Games, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, and The Expendables 2, and led the comic book television adaptation Métal Hurlant Chronicles.

Adkins has received several accolades for his action performances. He won an Action on Film Award for Breakout Action Star for his work in Undisputed III: Redemption, and earned a Jackie Chan Action Movie Award for Best Action Movie Actor for Boyka: Undisputed.
