Over her career, she has performed in numerous high-profile historical, wuxia, and modern productions, including The Legend of the Condor Heroes, The Imperial Doctress, and A Journey to Love.

Liu was raised in a family connected to performance and industry. Her grandfather was a performer of Xihe Dagu ballad art, while her parents initially worked in factories. Before pursuing acting, Liu received formal ballet training at the Beijing Dance Academy, graduating in 2007. She made her screen debut in 2005 with the drama series The Moon and the Wind, which incorporated a specialized ballet sequence. Early in her career, she appeared in projects such as The Young Warriors and The Fairies of Liaozhai. Her major career breakthrough occurred in 2011 with her portrayal of Ruoxi in the television drama Scarlet Heart, adapted from Tong Hua's novel Bu Bu Jing Xin. The series achieved widespread popularity both domestically and internationally, earning Liu multiple awards, such as Most Popular Actress honors at the China TV Drama Awards and the Shanghai Television Festival. That same year, she appeared in The Vigilantes In Masks and expanded into feature films with The Next Miracle, Sad Fairy Tale, and A Moment of Love. In 2012, she starred in the successful television series Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky, which drew significant viewership. Following these achievements, Liu was named Golden Eagle Goddess at the 9th China Golden Eagle TV Art Festival and was listed among the new Four Dan Actresses by Southern Metropolis Daily.

Liu later appeared in the melodrama If I Can Love You So and made her return after a two-year period in the contemporary series To Dear Myself, subsequently starring in A Journey to Love.
