Joey Yung

Joey Yung Tso-Yi is a Hong Kong pop singer and actress affiliated with Emperor Entertainment Group. Born on 16 June 1980 in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong, she has earned widespread commercial success and numerous accolades across major annual Hong Kong music award ceremonies since debuting in the late 1990s. In 2014, her public prominence led to her inclusion on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list.

Yung grew up alongside a younger brother and traces her family origins to Xinhui, Guangdong. She attended Ma On Shan Lutheran Primary School before eventually earning a diploma in tourism from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. Her path into entertainment began at age 15 after participating in the Big Echo Karaoke Singing Contest, which secured her a record deal with Go East Entertainment. Although her initial single was commercially unsuccessful and resulted in her release, she signed with Fitto Entertainment in 1998, an entity later acquired by Emperor Entertainment Group.

To prepare for her career, Yung received vocal coaching from Roman Tam and Teresa Carpio, accompanying Tam on tour as a guest performer. She made her feature film debut in the 1999 project The Accident and released her first EP, EP 1 Joey, the same year. The EP stayed on the local album charts for 23 weeks, establishing a long-standing chart record for a new artist. In 2000, she made her television drama debut in The Green Hope and held her inaugural solo concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, followed by her Mandarin-language debut album, Honestly, in 2001.

Yung achieved a major career milestone in 2003 with the song "My Pride," a widespread commercial theme that earned her top honors at the JSG Best Ten Music Awards Presentation, including Most Popular Female Singer. Throughout the remainder of the decade, she regularly released successful albums, starred in brand campaigns, and launched high-profile concert series. Her activities also included humanitarian work, such as serving as an ambassador for World Vision's 30 Hour Famine in 2007 and performing at the Live Earth concert in Shanghai.

In 2008, Yung contributed to official musical tracks for the Beijing Summer Olympics and launched a world tour. Marking ten years with her record label in 2009, she released commemorative albums and held the sold-out Perfect Ten Live concert series. In 2011, she became the first Chinese female singer to headline a concert at London's Royal Albert Hall, and her record Joey & Joey became the top-selling local album of that year. She also took on a leading role in the 2012 feature film Diva.

Over the following decade, Yung engaged in several large-scale concert tours, including Number6, Concert 1314, and the Pretty Crazy tour, alongside a specialized series of side-track performances titled My Secret Live. She also expanded into reality television, appearing on I Am a Singer in 2016, placing fourth overall on season two of Sisters Who Make Waves in 2021, and serving as a judge on The Masked Dancer. In 2022, she took part in numerous televised cultural galas and regional celebration performances across the Greater Bay Area.
