Gigi Leung

Gigi Leung Wing-kei, born Leung Pik-chi on March 25, 1976, is a prominent Hong Kong performer known for her work in acting, singing, and songwriting. Popular across Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, and Southeast Asia, she has established a long-running career in the film industry as well as the Cantopop and Mandopop music scenes.

Leung was born alongside her twin brother, Keith Leung Wing-chun, at Tsan Yuk Hospital in Sai Ying Pun. She was originally named Leung Pik-chi due to superstitious beliefs, as her family hoped changing her name would relieve the frequent asthma attacks she suffered during childhood. Standing at 176 centimeters, she earned the nickname Tall Girl. She completed her early schooling at Maryknoll Convent School before attending the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where she earned a diploma from the School of Design.

While studying at the university, Leung accepted a modeling assignment for the watch brand City Chain. Her appearance caught the attention of director Lee Chi-ngai, who cast her in her film debut, Doctor Mack (1995). That same year, while finishing her diploma, she appeared in Full Throttle, earning a nomination for Best Newcomer at the 1995 Hong Kong Film Awards for her supporting performance.

In 1996, Leung launched her music career with her debut album, Love Myself. Under contract with Warner Music Hong Kong, she released more than a dozen albums containing both Cantonese and Mandarin tracks. Beyond singing, she works as a composer and lyricist, writing music for herself and other local performers. Over her career, she has performed in major live concerts, including her 2003 show titled Funny Face. In March 2008, she signed with Big Artiste Management, a subsidiary of Mei Ah Entertainment.

Since beginning her screen career, Leung has starred in over 20 feature films, primarily focusing on comedies and dramas. Her prominent film roles include starring alongside Takeshi Kaneshiro in Turn Left, Turn Right (2003). Her acting earned Hong Kong Film Award nominations for Best Actress in Tempting Heart (1999) and Best Supporting Actress in A War Named Desire (2000). Beyond film, she appeared in the 2004 TVB series The Last Breakthrough, performed in stage musicals such as The Great Entertainer (2004), and provided Cantonese narration for the Japanese film Quill (2004).

Leung is also active in philanthropy, having served as an ambassador for UNICEF, World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Society for Abandoned Animals, alongside supporting the Hope Foundation, Yan Chai Hospital, and Yan Aiu Hospital. Additionally, she funded the construction of seven schools in Mainland China to assist children living in poverty. At age 27, she became the youngest local recipient of Hong Kong's Ten Most Outstanding Youth Award. In her personal life, following a seven-year relationship with Ekin Cheng that ended in 2006 and a later relationship with a French designer named Sly, she married Sergio Crespo Gutes in Ibiza on October 3, 2011, and gave birth to her daughter, Sofia, on February 28, 2015.
