Aimee Lou Wood

Aimee Lou Wood is an English actress and writer born on 3 February 1994. She is best known for her screen debut as Aimee Gibbs in the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education (2019–2023), a role that earned her a British Academy Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance. She has also established a career in theatre and film, starring in prominent stage productions as well as feature films such as The Electrical Life of Louis Wain and Living.

Wood was born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and raised in the village of Bramhall. Her mother works for Childline, her father is a car dealer, and her sister Emily Wood works as a makeup artist. Following her parents' divorce, she attended Cheadle Hulme School. She later took a foundation course at the Oxford School of Drama before earning a Bachelor of Arts in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2017.

She began her professional career on stage in 2016, making her debut as a handmaiden in Mary Stuart at London's Almeida Theatre through 2017. She subsequently toured the United Kingdom playing Laura in People, Places and Things. Alongside her screen work, Wood returned to the West End in 2020 to play Sonya Serebryakova in Uncle Vanya at the Harold Pinter Theatre, a production recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic that received cinema and BBC releases. In 2023, she starred in a West End production of Cabaret.

Wood achieved screen recognition in 2019 when she was cast in Sex Education, having originally auditioned for the role of Lily Iglehart. Her performance brought her a BAFTA Television Award win in 2021 and a second nomination in 2022. Expanding into film, she appeared in the short film Hen (2020), portrayed Claire Wain in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021), and played Dorothy in Sweet Dreams. She landed her first lead feature film role opposite Bill Nighy in the 2022 drama Living, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

In 2023, Wood was nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award. She subsequently starred in the comedy series Daddy Issues starting in 2024 and joined the third season of the HBO anthology series The White Lotus, which premiered in 2025. Her performance in The White Lotus earned her nominations for an Actor Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2025, she created and starred in the BBC Three series Film Club. She was also cast as Pattie Boyd in Sam Mendes's upcoming film project The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, scheduled for release in April 2028.

Beyond acting, Wood served on the jury of the British Short Film Awards in 2021 and narrated an audiobook of Wuthering Heights in 2020. She resides in South East London. Wood was in a relationship with her Sex Education co-star Connor Swindells from January 2019 to March 2020. She has spoken publicly about living with body dysmorphia, as well as receiving diagnoses for ADHD and autistic traits. Wood is also vocal on political issues, having signed multiple ceasefire letters and boycott pledges regarding Palestine.
