Born in Seoul on April 17, 1995, as the youngest of three children, he relocated with his family to Toronto, Canada, at six years old. At seventeen, he returned to South Korea independently while his family remained in Canada. He later completed his higher education at Kookmin University, graduating from the Department of International Business.
After returning to South Korea, Ahn was recruited by JYP Entertainment. He trained there for three years, sharing dormitories with members of the group Got7, but eventually departed the agency because of trainee stress. In October 2015, he made his musical debut under Starhaus Entertainment as part of the four-member project group One O One, which released the single "Love You." He also launched his television career around the same time, appearing in the drama Splash Splash Love and the music variety program Always Cantare, followed by minor roles in series such as One More Happy Ending, Happy Home, and Entertainer in 2016.
Ahn gained wider recognition in 2017 after securing his first lead role in Queen of the Ring. He continued taking on prominent projects, including the 2018 series Still 17, where his performance as a high school rowing team captain earned him a Best New Actor honor at the SBS Drama Awards. That same year, he featured in the web series Top Management, and in 2019, he starred in the fantasy comedy Abyss and co-hosted the 4th Asia Artist Awards. Ahn achieved further acclaim in 2020 starring as surgeon Seo Woo-jin in the second season of Dr. Romantic, a role that earned him a Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Actor along with an SBS Drama Award.
Ahn continued his streak of leading roles in the historical-fantasy drama Lovers of the Red Sky in 2021, receiving additional acting accolades for his multi-layered portrayal. In 2022, he starred as a corporate chief executive in the webtoon adaptation Business Proposal and was cast in the Netflix series A Time Called You. In May 2022, he established a new management agency, The Present Company, alongside a former manager. He later reprised his medical role in the third season of Dr. Romantic in 2023.
Expanding into feature films, Ahn was cast as Kim Dok-ja in the live-action fantasy film Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy. In 2025, he made his voice acting debut voicing the character Jinu in the Netflix animated musical film KPop Demon Hunters, which topped international viewing charts across multiple countries. Beyond acting, Ahn has represented various commercial brands, including serving as a brand ambassador for Lacoste, and has engaged in charitable efforts such as donating protective masks during the pandemic, supporting flood relief, aiding disabled artists, and contributing to UNICEF.
