Prior to his debut, he was a competitive taekwondo athlete and underwent musical training as a trainee under SM Entertainment and Belift Lab.
Yang gained widespread public recognition in 2020 through the Mnet reality survival competition program I-Land, where he finished in second place in the final lineup. He officially debuted with ENHYPEN on November 30, 2020, releasing their debut extended play, Border: Day One. Since their debut, the group has released multiple studio and extended albums, achieving high placement on global music sales charts.
