Shia LaBeouf

Shia Saide LaBeouf is an American actor and filmmaker born on June 11, 1986, in Los Angeles, California. He is widely recognized for his work across television, major Hollywood blockbusters, and independent cinema. Over the course of his career, his accolades have included a Daytime Emmy Award and a BAFTA Award.

LaBeouf was raised as the only child of Shayna Saide, a visual artist, jewelry designer, and dancer, and Jeffrey LaBeouf, a professional clown. He grew up poor in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles in a hippy lifestyle marked by his parents' eventual divorce and financial difficulties. Exposed as a child to both his mother's Jewish faith and his father's Christian background, he embraced Catholicism in 2022. He attended local schools in Los Angeles, including 32nd Street School/USC Magnet and Alexander Hamilton High School, though he received much of his education from tutors.

Before turning to acting, LaBeouf performed stand-up comedy at age ten at The Improv as an escape from a difficult home environment. He initially sought acting roles to help support his family financially. His breakthrough came in 2000 when he was cast as Louis Stevens on the Disney Channel series Even Stevens, a role he played through 2003 that earned him a Daytime Emmy Award. He subsequently transitioned to film with roles in Holes, Constantine, and The Greatest Game Ever Played.

In 2007, LaBeouf achieved widespread commercial recognition starring in the thriller Disturbia and playing lead character Sam Witwicky in the science fiction blockbuster Transformers. He reprised his role in two sequels, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Transformers: Dark of the Moon, with the trilogy collectively grossing over two billion dollars worldwide. His prominent roles during this era also included Mutt Williams in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, as well as starring roles in Eagle Eye and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

In subsequent years, despite experiencing career setbacks amid legal issues and public controversies, LaBeouf expanded his work into independent cinema. He earned praise for his performances in films such as Lawless, Fury, American Honey, Borg vs McEnroe, The Peanut Butter Falcon, and Pieces of a Woman. In 2019, he wrote and starred in the acclaimed film Honey Boy, basing the screenplay on his personal life and his relationship with his father.

Beyond acting, LaBeouf has directed short films, including his directorial debut Let's Love Hate and the short film Maniac, as well as music videos for artists such as Cage and Kid Cudi. He has also written graphic novels and created webcomics. In 2014, he formed a performance art collective with Luke Turner and Nastja Säde Rönkkö, launching various high-profile projects. His later work includes his 2023 stage debut in David Mamet's play Henry Johnson, a role in Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, and appearing as himself in the 2025 feature documentary Slauson Rec.
