Samantha Ruth Prabhu is an Indian actress and film producer who predominantly works in Tamil and Telugu cinema. Recognized as one of South India's highest-paid female performers, she has received numerous honors, including four Filmfare Awards South, two Nandi Awards, and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award. In addition to her acting achievements, she is the founder of the charitable trust Pratyusha Support.

Born on 28 April 1987 in the Pallavaram neighborhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, she grew up as the youngest child of Joseph Prabhu and Ninette, alongside two older brothers, Jonathan and David. Raised in a home with a Telugu father and a Malayali mother, she became fluent in both Tamil and Telugu. She attended Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School and later earned a degree in commerce from Stella Maris College in Chennai. Near the end of her college studies, she began modeling, which led to her being discovered by filmmaker Ravi Varman after working on an assignment for Naidu Hall.

Samantha made her feature film debut in 2010 with Gautham Vasudev Menon's Telugu romantic film Ye Maaya Chesave. Her performance earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South as well as a Nandi Special Jury Award. That same year, she appeared in the music video Semmozhiyaana Thamizh Mozhiyaam and took on roles in projects such as Baana Kaathadi, Moscowin Kavery, and Brindaavanam. She rapidly expanded her screen presence with a prominent role in the successful Telugu title Dookudu in 2011.

Her career reached a major milestone in 2012 through her performances in S. S. Rajamouli's project Eega and Gautham Vasudev Menon's romantic drama Neethaane En Ponvasantham. These roles earned her Filmfare Awards for Best Actress in both Telugu and Tamil in the same year, making her only the second performer to accomplish this dual achievement. Throughout the following years, she starred in several prominent commercial productions, including Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Attarintiki Daredi, Kaththi, Theri, 24, Mersal, and Rangasthalam.

Samantha received her fourth Filmfare Award for her performance in the 2016 romantic comedy A Aa. She earned further critical recognition for her roles in projects such as Mahanati, Oh! Baby, Super Deluxe, and Majili. She later transitioned into digital streaming with the thriller series The Family Man in 2021, which earned her a Filmfare OTT Award, and subsequently starred in the action project Citadel: Honey Bunny in 2024.

Beyond her work in front of the camera, Samantha expanded into film production, making her debut as a producer with the horror comedy Subham in 2025. She followed this project with the 2026 release Maa Inti Bangaaram, which established itself as her highest solo grossing film.
