Mario Maurer

Mario Maurer is a Thai actor and model who rose to international prominence through his roles in major Asian film releases. He is best known for starring in the 2007 drama Love of Siam, the 2010 sleeper hit Crazy Little Thing Called Love (also known as First Love), and the historical box-office record-holder Pee Mak, which became the highest-grossing film in Thai cinema history alongside co-star Davika Hoorne.

Maurer was born to a German father named Roland and a Thai-Chinese mother, growing up alongside an older brother named Marco, who pursued a career as a rapper. Maurer completed his early education at Saint Dominic School and subsequently earned a bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Law at Ramkhamhaeng University. He later pursued graduate studies, obtaining a master's degree in Political Communication from Krirk University in 2017.

At the age of 16, Maurer was approached at Siam Square to begin modeling, which led to appearances in promotional photo shoots, advertisements, and music videos. He made his feature acting debut in 2007 as Tong in Chukiat Sakweerakul's Love of Siam. Although he initially had no plans to pursue acting, he accepted the role out of trust in the director and to help support his family financially. The performance brought him immediate fame, a Best Actor award at the Starpics Thai Films Awards, and nominations from the Bangkok Critics Assembly and Star Entertainment Awards.

Following his debut, Maurer featured in several film projects. In 2008, he starred alongside Apinya Sakuljaroensuk as a twelfth-grade student in Chatchai Naksuriya's period film Friendship, set around 1983. That same year, he appeared in the Rashane Limtrakul-directed segment Kiss in the anthology 4 Romance. Although approached by Bhandit Rittakol for Boonchu 9, conflicting commitments prevented his participation. He subsequently appeared in Yuthlert Sippapak's comedy-horror film Rahtree Reborn in 2009 alongside Chermarn Boonyasak.

Maurer achieved massive mainstream popularity with the 2010 film First Love and his lead role in Pee Mak. His standing in the Thai entertainment industry was further highlighted by his inclusion in Channel 3's promotional group 4+1 Channel 3 Superstar, alongside actors Nadech Kugimiya, Prin Suparat, Pakorn Chatborirak, and Phupoom Pongpanu.

Beyond acting, Maurer collaborated with his brother in a hip-hop duo called PsyCho & Lil'Mario, releasing the album Dem Crazy Boyz in late 2007. He has also served as a brand ambassador for numerous companies, including Exit Rollon, Honda Jazz, Pepsi, Sony Ericsson, The Pizza Company, Sugus, Foremost, Dutchmill, and Unilever. In 2011, he expanded his regional popularity by signing an endorsement deal with Philippine apparel brand Penshoppe, participating in fashion shows and fan conferences, and starring opposite Erich Gonzales in the 2012 Star Cinema film Suddenly It's Magic.

In his personal life, Maurer's interests include skateboarding, hip-hop, driving cars, and naturism. Although he does not speak German, he learned basic Mandarin while in high school. His father passed away from a diabetes-related heart attack in 2008, and he maintains a close bond with his brother.
