Hwasa

Ahn Hye-jin, known professionally as Hwasa, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and television personality. She rose to prominence in June 2014 as a member of the girl group Mamamoo. In February 2019, she made her official debut as a solo artist with the digital single "Twit", which topped the Circle Digital Chart and won a Gaon Chart Music Award. Her stage name is derived from a South Korean adjective meaning "to shine brightly."

Hwasa was born on July 23, 1995, in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea, where she grew up alongside her parents and two elder sisters. She attended and graduated from Wonkwang Information Arts High School. Inspired by Beyoncé, she pursued her passion for music from a young age. Prior to her formal K-pop debut, her vocal talent was recognized by South Korean musicians such as Solbi and the band Standing Egg, who featured her on their tracks when she was 18 years old.

During her debut with Mamamoo, Hwasa contributed as one of the leading voices on their first extended play (EP), Hello, for which she wrote and composed her first solo song, "My Heart/I Do Me". In March 2018, she released the solo track "Be Calm". Later that year, her collaboration with rapper Loco on the song "Don't" topped the Gaon Digital Chart. In 2019, her solo single "Twit" achieved widespread commercial success, topping the domestic digital, download, and streaming charts while reaching number three on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart in the United States.

In 2020, Hwasa featured on a remix of Dua Lipa's "Physical" and recorded her first soundtrack song, "Orbit". On June 29, 2020, she released her debut solo EP, María. Co-composed by Hwasa, the lead single "María" reached number two on the Gaon Chart and earned her both a Golden Disc Award and a Mnet Asian Music Award. Later that year, she joined the project supergroup Refund Sisters through the show How Do You Play?, releasing the number-one single "Don't Touch Me".

In June 2023, Hwasa departed her longtime agency RBW and signed with P Nation. Under P Nation, she released the single "I Love My Body", which reached the top ten of the Circle Digital Chart and the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. She subsequently launched her first solo tour, titled "Twits", performing across Asia and North America. In October 2025, she released the single "Good Goodbye", which reached number 32 on the Billboard Global 200 and spent nine weeks at number one on the Circle Digital Chart. In April 2026, she released the digital single "So Cute".

Throughout her career, Hwasa has received wide recognition, including placements on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list in 2021 and the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity 40 list in 2019. Beyond her music, she has worked extensively as a commercial model and promotional ambassador for brands and campaigns such as The North Face, Coca-Cola's Gold Peak Tea, Adidas, Tommy Jeans, Dolce & Gabbana, and the 2021 Lifeplus JTBC Seoul Marathon.
