Claudio Catano

Claudio Cataño (born Claudio Cataño Porras on September 18, 1985) is a Colombian actor and director known for his leading roles across Colombian television, feature films, and international streaming productions. Raised in Bogotá in an artistic family, he established himself as a prominent figure in Latin American entertainment over a career spanning two decades. He gained widespread international prominence for portraying Colonel Aureliano Buendía in Netflix’s acclaimed television adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's literary masterpiece, One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien años de soledad).

Early Life and Artistic Background

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Cataño grew up surrounded by arts and culture. His father, Mauricio Cataño, worked as a filmmaker, while his grandfather was the well-known urban poet Mario Rivero and his uncle was writer Fausto Panesso. Cataño was raised by his grandparents in the historic La Candelaria neighborhood of Bogotá. After attending several schools during his youth, he formally pursued dramatic arts at the Rubén Di Pietro Acting School, where he developed a disciplined foundation in classical and contemporary theatrical performance.

Career in Film and Television

Cataño made his television acting debut in 2005 with a guest appearance in the Colombian comedy series Casados con hijos. He achieved widespread domestic recognition through prominent roles in television productions such as La sucursal del cielo, Bermúdez, Rosario Tijeras, and the boxing drama A mano limpia, for which he earned a Best Leading Actor nomination at the TVyNovelas Awards. Beyond television acting, Cataño transitioned into filmmaking, directing short films such as Canalst and APT101 in 2012, before writing, directing, and executive producing his debut feature film Moria in 2016. In addition to his celebrated performance in One Hundred Years of Solitude, his screen credits include roles in 2091, La nieta elegida, Las Villamizar, and feature films like Aurora and Inventario.

Cataño resides in Bogotá, Colombia. Throughout his life, he has maintained strong connections to theater and creative writing. He has two children from previous relationships: a son with Cindy Herazo and a daughter named Anastasia with actress Patricia Castañeda. As of 2023, he has been in a long-term relationship with Colombian actress María del Rosario Barreto. Cataño is known for maintaining a private lifestyle away from commercial social media platforms.
