Tina Tamashiro

Tina Tamashiro (玉城ティナ, born October 8, 1997) is a Japanese actress and model, and one of the most recognisable young screen talents to emerge from Okinawa in the 2010s.

Born in Urasoe, Okinawa, to a Japanese mother and an American father, she was scouted on the street as a teenager. In 2012 she won the Grand Prix of Kodansha’s Miss iD 2013 contest, and went on to model for the fashion magazine ViVi, where she spoke of her ambition to become a “model idol.” That mix of editorial modelling and acting has defined her career ever since.

On screen she quickly became prolific, with roles in Wolf Girl and Black Prince (2016), the horror crossover Sadako vs. Kayako (2016), Sagrada Reset (2017), Missions of Love (2018), Hell Girl (2019) and Diner (2019). Her performance in The Flowers of Evil (2019) earned her the Hochi Film Award for Best New Artist. She has continued with AI Amok (2020), The Way of the Househusband (2022), xxxHolic (2022) and By the Window (2022), followed by Thorns of Beauty (2023) and the 2025 film 366 Days.

On television she led the drama O Maidens in Your Savage Season (2020), appeared in the Japanese adaptation of Suits (2020), and joined the cast of Alice in Borderland for its third season (2025) — the kind of high-profile streaming role that has kept international audiences searching for her background, age and filmography. Known for a striking, slightly otherworldly screen presence, Tamashiro moves fluidly between horror, youth romance, manga adaptations and prestige drama, and is regularly counted among the notable young actresses of her generation in Japan.

Fluent in the language of both fashion editorials and film sets, Tamashiro has also lent her voice to dubbing work — including the Japanese dub of The Idol — and remains a sought-after cover star for Japanese magazines, sustaining the dual model-and-actress career she set out to build as a teenager.
