Tatiana Maslany

Tatiana Gabriele Maslany is a Canadian actress. She rose to prominence for portraying multiple characters in the science-fiction thriller television series Orphan Black (2013–2017). For her performance in the series, she became the first Canadian to win an Emmy Award in a major dramatic category for acting in a Canadian series, earning the Primetime Emmy Award in 2016 alongside five Canadian Screen Awards between 2014 and 2018.

Maslany was born on September 22, 1985, in Regina, Saskatchewan. She has Austrian, German, Polish, Romanian, and Ukrainian ancestry, and grew up in a multilingual environment, attending French immersion and learning German from her mother and maternal grandparents. She began dancing at age four and started participating in community theatre and musicals at age nine. While attending Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School, she engaged in school productions and comedic improvisation, graduating in 2003. She took a gap year and briefly attended the University of Regina before relocating to Toronto at age 20.

Maslany began her professional career with roles in early 2000s projects such as the television series 2030 CE and the 2004 film Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed. Over the following years, she performed extensive improvisational theatre and acquired roles in television series including Heartland, Instant Star, Flashpoint, and Being Erica. She gained international notice for her lead role in the 2010 British miniseries The Nativity and earned a special jury break-out award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival for Grown Up Movie Star.

Her breakout role came in 2013 with Orphan Black, in which she played the lead character Sarah Manning and a cohort of clones. The role earned her two Critics' Choice Television Awards, a TCA Award, a Golden Globe nomination, and two Primetime Emmy nominations, winning the award in 2016. Concurrently, she appeared in films such as Picture Day (2012), Cas and Dylan (2013), Woman in Gold (2015), and The Other Half (2016), the latter winning her a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actress.

Maslany continued expanding her portfolio with roles in the film Stronger (2017), the crime thriller Destroyer (2018), and the Broadway production of Network in 2019. She starred as Sister Alice in the HBO period miniseries Perry Mason (2020) and assumed the lead role of Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022). Her later projects include starring roles in the 2025 horror films The Monkey and Keeper, as well as the thriller television series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.
