Rainie Yang

Rainie Yang Cheng Lin (born June 4, 1984) is a Taiwanese singer, actress, and television presenter. She first entered the entertainment industry in 2000 as a member of a musical group before establishing a solo career across music, television, and film. Over her career, she has achieved broad recognition for co-hosting popular variety programming, starring in widespread hit television dramas, and releasing a succession of successful music projects.

Raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Yang has paternal roots in Guangdong, China, and grew up speaking Cantonese at home. When she was thirteen years old, her father's financial difficulties caused her parents to divorce, forcing her to enter the workforce early. She subsequently attended Hwa Kang Arts School, where she received training in performance arts.

Her entertainment career launched in 2000 with the girl group 4 in Love under the stage name Rainie. Following the group's dissolution in 2002, she began hosting television shows, including a long tenure on the variety show Guess. After taking supporting roles in popular television dramas such as Meteor Garden, she secured her break as a lead actress in the 2005 series Devil Beside You. She launched her solo music career that same year with the album My Intuition, which achieved platinum status in Taiwan and sold over one million copies across Asia.

Following her musical debut, Yang released her second studio album, Meeting Love, in 2006. She stepped down from hosting Guess in early 2007 to focus entirely on her acting and singing pursuits. Seeking to broaden her acting range, she starred in the movie Spider Lilies before returning to romantic dramas such as Why Why Love and Miss No Good. Despite sustaining a spinal contusion from a fall while filming in 2008, she maintained an active schedule, releasing her third and fourth albums, My Other Self and Not Yet a Woman.

In the following years, Yang starred in the Thai horror film The Child's Eye and the television series Hi My Sweetheart. Her portrayal in Hi My Sweetheart brought her the Best Actress honor at the 45th Golden Bell Awards in 2010. During this period, she debuted in the J-pop market, released her compilation album Whimsical World Collection, and embarked on her Love Voyage concert tour, alongside releasing the albums Rainie & Love...?, Longing for..., Wishing for Happiness, and Angel Wings.

Yang signed with EMI Taiwan in 2014 and released her album A Tale of Two Rainie, followed by starring roles in series like Life Plan A and B. Her 2016 album, Traces of Time in Love, received three Golden Melody Award nominations, securing her place among artists nominated across Taiwan's major awards for television, film, and music. In addition to releasing Delete Reset Grow in 2019, she publicly advocated for LGBTQIA+ rights and equal marriage legislation.

In 2020, Yang released her twelfth album, Like a Star, and initiated an accompanying world tour. Her later projects include appearing as a contestant on the 2024 reality program Singer and launching Only in Echoes in October 2025 to mark her twenty-fifth anniversary in show business. In her personal life, Yang married Chinese singer-songwriter Li Ronghao in 2019 after dating since late 2014.
