Owen McDonnell

Owen McDonnell is an Irish actor born in 1974. He is widely recognized for his television performances, including his roles in the RTÉ series Single-Handed, the TG4 Western An Klondike, and the BBC spy thriller series Killing Eve.

Raised in Galway, Ireland, McDonnell relocated to London in 1996 to attend the Central School of Speech and Drama. Prior to securing screen roles, he established his acting background by performing extensively in theatrical productions across Ireland and the United Kingdom.

After appearing in the 2003 film Conspiracy of Silence, McDonnell achieved his television breakthrough when cast as Garda Sergeant Jack Driscoll in Single-Handed. He landed the role after auditioning in Dublin for director Colm McCarthy while performing in a play in Galway. He went on to star in all four seasons of the RTÉ police drama and earned an IFTA Award nomination for his performance in 2011.

Following his success on Single-Handed, McDonnell secured roles in various television productions, including RTÉ's Wild Decembers, the BBC One dramas Spooks and Silent Witness, and the early seasons of Sky1's comedy series Mount Pleasant. In 2014, he played Inspector Fiachra Greene in An Bronntanas, a project that aired as a TG4 miniseries and was adapted into a feature film submitted as Ireland's entry for the 87th Academy Awards.

In 2015, McDonnell joined the cast of the TG4 Western series An Klondike, which centered on the Klondike gold rush. His subsequent projects included starring in the 2016 production Wrecking the Rising and appearing in the short film adaptation of An Béal Bocht. Beginning in 2018, he played Niko Polastri, the husband of Sandra Oh's character, in the BBC series Killing Eve.

McDonnell currently resides in London with his British partner, Jill, and their two children.
