Molly Parker

Molly Parker is a Canadian actress, writer, and director who gained critical acclaim through her performances in both independent cinema and prominent television series. She first earned widespread attention for her leading portrayal of a medical student in the 1996 feature film Kissed, establishing her career across North American film and television.

Born on June 30, 1972, in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Parker was raised on a farm in Pitt Meadows alongside her younger brother. Her parents ran a seafood market. Parker studied ballet from age three to seventeen, including three years of performance with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company. She started acting locally at fourteen, initially managed by her uncle's agent during her early television appearances before undertaking formal training at the Gastown Actors' Studio in Vancouver.

Her early screen career included roles in television movies such as Serving in Silence and a Gemini Award-nominated performance in Paris or Somewhere. Following her breakthrough in Kissed, which earned her the Genie Award for Best Actress, she starred in the television thriller Intensity and the sitcom Twitch City. She also featured in feature films, including Bruce McDonald's Hard Core Logo, Michael Winterbottom's Wonderland, and the historical drama Sunshine.

In 2000, Parker made her major American film debut in Waking the Dead. She received critical notice for her work in Wayne Wang's low-budget drama The Center of the World, securing a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead. During the early 2000s, she appeared in features such as Pure, Max, Iron Jawed Angels, and Nine Lives, while also executive producing the movie Looking for Leonard.

Parker gained further international recognition beginning in 2004 when she was cast as Alma Garret in the HBO Western series Deadwood, a role she played throughout its three-season run. Over the following decade, she took on recurring and starring roles in television series including Swingtown, Dexter, and The Firm. In 2014, she joined the political drama House of Cards as Jacqueline Sharp, receiving a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for her performance.

Parker continued to balance television and film commitments, appearing in features such as American Pastoral, Small Crimes, 1922, and Weirdos, the latter earning her a Canadian Screen Award. In 2017, she made her directorial and writing debut with the short film Birds. She subsequently starred as Maureen Robinson in the remake series Lost in Space from 2018 to 2021, reprised her role in Deadwood: The Movie, and was cast as the lead character Dr. Amy Larsen in the medical drama Doc in January 2025.
