Kristin Davis

Kristin Landen Davis, also listed as Kristin Lee Davis, is an American actress and producer. She is best known for playing Charlotte York in the HBO romantic comedy series Sex and the City, a role that earned her nominations at both the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards in 2004. She has since reprised this role in feature films and television revivals. Davis was born in Boulder, Colorado, on February 23, 1965. Following her parents' divorce during her infancy, she was adopted by her stepfather, Keith Davis, a university professor, after he married her mother, Dorothy. The family relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, where Davis grew up and developed an early interest in acting. After graduating from A.C. Flora High School in 1983, she attended Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting in 1987. Moving to New York after college, Davis began her acting career with appearances in daytime television and guest spots on various series. Her professional breakthrough occurred in 1995 when she was cast as villainous character Brooke Armstrong in the Fox prime-time soap opera Melrose Place. She joined the cast of Sex and the City in 1998, continuing with the main series through its conclusion in 2004. During this era, she also guest-starred on television shows such as Seinfeld, Friends, and Will & Grace, and starred in television movies like Atomic Train. Following the main run of Sex and the City, Davis reprised her signature role in the feature films Sex and the City in 2008 and Sex and the City 2 in 2010. She later returned to the role in the revival series And Just Like That... from 2021 to 2025. Her broader feature film credits include The Shaggy Dog, Deck the Halls, Couples Retreat, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and the Netflix film Holiday in the Wild, which she also produced. Beyond screen roles, Davis made her Broadway debut in the 2012 revival of The Best Man and her West End debut in the 2014 stage production of Fatal Attraction. In addition to her performance career, Davis has served as an executive and producer on television films and documentaries, such as Of Two Minds and Gardeners of Eden. In 2008, she partnered with the department store chain Belk to launch a signature ladies' apparel and accessories line. Davis has received multiple accolades for her artistic work and advocacy. In 1999, she shared the Women in Film Lucy Award with her Sex and the City co-stars. An active advocate for wildlife and humanitarian causes, she serves as a Global Ambassador for Oxfam, has worked extensively with the UNHCR, and supports elephant conservation through the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Her conservation efforts earned her the Humane Society's Wyler Award in 2010 and The Perfect World Foundation Award in 2023.
