About Jules Asner
Jules Asner is an American screenwriter, author, former entertainment journalist, television personality, and model. She is widely known for her extensive work as a host and personality on the E! network, as well as for her television reporting, writing, and screenwriting projects.
Born Julie Ann White on February 14, 1968, in Tempe, Arizona, she was discovered at a modeling convention in Scottsdale, Arizona, at age 16. She began her modeling career with Elite Models and shared a bunk-room with Cindy Crawford during her early years in the industry. Asner graduated from McClintock High School in Tempe in 1986 and later earned a degree in political science from UCLA.
Asner gained prominent public recognition during her career with E!, where she hosted up to six hours of programming daily. Her work for the network included hosting series such as E! News Live, Wild On!, and Revealed with Jules Asner, alongside numerous live specials. Prior to her tenure at E!, she worked as an entertainment reporter for Extra, Reuters Television's Good Morning England, and Sky Television's The Entertainment Show. She also served as a segment director and producer for Hard Copy and hosted Live by Request on A&E.
In addition to her broadcasting work, Asner authored her debut novel, Whacked, which was published by Miramax Books on June 3, 2008. The book tells the story of a woman plotting revenge against a former lover, drawing inspiration from a past breakup experienced by Asner herself.
Asner has also worked in film writing and production. She authored the screenplay for the film Logan Lucky, directed by her husband, Steven Soderbergh. To avoid drawing media focus to the fact that Soderbergh was directing his wife's script, she used the pseudonym Rebecca Blunt. Behind-the-scenes photos published in 2018 confirmed her direct involvement with the film. Prior to this, she provided uncredited script rewrites on Magic Mike and several other projects directed by Soderbergh.
Throughout her career, Asner earned a Prism Award for her work on her interview program Revealed with Jules Asner. In her personal life, she was married to Matthew Asner from 1992 to 1996, during which time she took his surname. On May 10, 2003, she married film director Steven Soderbergh in New York, and he frequently credits her with influencing the development of his female characters.
