About Jolin Tsai

Jolin Tsai I-lin, born on September 15, 1980, in Hsinchuang, Taiwan, is a Taiwanese singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress widely recognized as the Queen of C-Pop. She possesses one-quarter Papora Indigenous Taiwanese heritage through her maternal grandmother. Tsai attended Hsinchuang Elementary School, Hsinchuang Junior High School, and Chingmei Girls' High School, where she formed a musical group named Twister. She later completed her higher education at Fu Jen Catholic University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in English Literature.

Tsai launched her professional music career after winning a contest organized by MTV Mandarin in May 1998. She signed with Universal in March 1999 and released her debut single, Living with the World, followed by her first studio album, 1019, later that year. The release established her image as a popular teen idol. Over the following two years, she released three more studio projects under the label: Don't Stop in 2000, Show Your Love in 2000, and Lucky Number in 2001.

In July 2002, Tsai signed with Sony and shifted toward a dance-oriented musical direction with her 2003 album Magic, which achieved significant regional sales. That same year, she starred in the television series Hi Working Girl and translated children's books by Madonna into Chinese. Her subsequent albums with Sony included Castle in 2004 and J-Game in 2005. During this period, she also embarked on her initial concert tour, the J1 World Tour, in August 2004.

Tsai signed with EMI in February 2006 and released her landmark album Dancing Diva later that year. The project earned her her first Golden Melody Award for Best Mandarin Female Singer and was supported by the Dancing Forever World Tour. She maintained her creative output with the studio album Agent J in 2007, released alongside an accompanying film of the same name, and an English-language cover album titled Love Exercise in 2008.

In late 2008, Tsai signed with Warner and released the album Butterfly in 2009. That same year, she co-founded the company Eternal to oversee her artist management, music production, and concert operations, giving her major creative authority over her work. Her later critically acclaimed records included Myself in 2010, Muse in 2012, Play in 2014, Ugly Beauty in 2018, and Pleasure in 2025, alongside multiple global concert tours.

With nine wins, Tsai is the most awarded female Mandopop artist in Golden Melody Award history. She has sold over 25 million records, making her the highest-selling Taiwanese female artist since 2000. Every studio album she released from Magic onward became the top-selling album by a female artist in Taiwan for its release year. Tsai has also appeared frequently on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list and authored several books.
