Sebastian was born in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. His father, Ivan, is of Sri Lankan Tamil descent, and his mother, Nellie, is an ethnic Eurasian with English and Indian ancestry. After attending St Paul's College and King's Baptist Grammar School, he studied medical radiation at the University of South Australia before leaving to pursue music. He worked as a vocal teacher, recording engineer, and worship singer while studying music technology at the University of Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium.
