Wilbur Soot

William Patrick Gold, born on 14 September 1996 and known professionally as Wilbur Soot, is an English internet personality and musician. He first gained public attention through his involvement with collaborative online projects before establishing himself as an independent video creator, streamer, and lead vocalist for an indie rock group.

Gold began his digital career in 2017 as a co-founder, recurring featured creator, and lead editor for the group channel SootHouse. The channel focused on reaction videos, comedic discussions of internet memes, and life hacks, surpassing one million subscribers in May 2019. In November 2017, Gold launched a separate channel called Wilbur, which focused on geography. He subsequently established his main personal channel, Wilbur Soot, in March 2019, reaching one million subscribers by April 2020 and amassing over five million subscribers by early 2026.

In addition to YouTube, Gold developed a significant presence on Twitch, becoming one of the top fifty-five most-followed channels on the platform with over 4.6 million followers. In 2020, he joined the Dream SMP Minecraft roleplay server, where he founded the fictional in-game nation of L'manberg and served as a key writer for the server's overarching narrative. He has also participated in competitive gaming events, including Minecraft Monday and the MC Championship.

Gold has also authored published literature alongside fellow online creators. In August 2022, creator TommyInnit announced a collaborative book project written with Gold titled TommyInnit Says...The Quote Book. Released in October 2022, all sales proceeds from the publication were donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America in memory of late creator Technoblade.

In 2018, Gold initiated his music career by sharing comedic tracks and covers, beginning with The 'Nice Guy' Ballad. He shifted toward non-comedic music with his late 2019 extended play Maybe I Was Boring, followed by the surprise release of his debut studio album, Your City Gave Me Asthma, in June 2020. His December 2020 comedic single Your New Boyfriend achieved regional chart positions across the United Kingdom and Ireland while earning him placements on Billboard's Emerging Artists Chart and Rolling Stone's Top Breakthrough Chart. He later released the single Soft Boy in 2022 and his second solo album, Mammalian Sighing Reflex, in November 2023.

In 2021, Gold co-founded the British indie rock band Lovejoy alongside guitarist Joe Goldsmith, later joined by drummer Mark Boardman and bassist Ash Kabosu. Performing as rhythm guitarist, lead vocalist, and co-writer, Gold released the extended plays Are You Alright? and Pebble Brain in 2021, the latter reaching number twelve on the UK Albums Chart. After signing with the label AWAL, Lovejoy earned a top-five UK album debut with their 2023 extended play Wake Up & It's Over, followed by the release of their debut studio album, One Simple Trick, in October 2025.
