Markiplier

Mark Edward Fischbach, known professionally as Markiplier, is an American YouTuber, filmmaker, actor, and online personality. Recognized as one of the most prominent content creators on YouTube, he gained global fame for his high-energy commentary and "Let's Play" playthroughs of indie horror games, most notably Five Nights at Freddy's and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Over his career, he has built a massive international online following, expanded into creative directing and producing, and led numerous high-profile charitable fundraising efforts.

Early Life and Background

Fischbach was born on June 28, 1989, at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father served in the U.S. Military, where he met Fischbach's mother, who is of Korean descent. The family later relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Fischbach grew up alongside his older brother, Jason Thomas Fischbach. He attended Milford High School and later enrolled at the University of Cincinnati to study biomedical engineering. However, he left college to pursue a full-time career in online video production.

YouTube Career and Rise to Fame

Fischbach launched his original YouTube channel in March 2012 under the username Markiplier, combining his first name with the word "multiplier." After facing technical issues with his original account, he created his current primary channel, Markiplier, in May 2012. His channel rapidly expanded due to his comedic reactions, distinctive deep voice, and engaging commentary during horror video game playthroughs. Beyond solo gameplay, he collaborated with prominent creators, co-created the popular limited-time channel Unus Annus alongside Ethan Nestor, and co-hosts the comedic podcast Distractible.

Filmmaking, Business, and Personal Life

Expanding into narrative entertainment, Fischbach directed, wrote, and starred in interactive YouTube Originals projects including A Heist with Markiplier and In Space with Markiplier. In 2023, he began self-funding and directing his feature film debut, Iron Lung, an adaptation of the indie horror game. He also co-founded the athleisure clothing brand Cloak alongside fellow creator Jacksepticeye. Based in Los Angeles, California, Fischbach married his longtime partner, animator and designer Amy Nelson, in October 2025 after a decade together.
