Wendy

Shon Seung-wan, known professionally as Wendy, is a South Korean singer born on February 21, 1994. She is best known as a member of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet, which she debuted with in 2014. In addition to her group activities, Wendy launched her career as a solo artist in 2021 with her debut extended play, Like Water, and became a member of the SM Entertainment supergroup Got the Beat in 2022.

Wendy was born in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, South Korea, into a family of music lovers and developed an interest in singing at age six. She can play the piano, guitar, flute, and saxophone. After living in Jecheon, she moved to Canada and later the United States to study abroad. Attending Shattuck-Saint Mary's in Minnesota as an honor student and athlete, she began using her English name, Wendy Shon. She later attended Richmond Hill High School in Ontario, participating in the Vocal Fusion show choir and becoming fluent in English. After initially opposing her music career, her parents allowed her to audition in high school.

Wendy was a finalist in Koreaboo's Global Auditions in 2011 with Cube Entertainment. In 2012, she was cast by SM Entertainment after auditioning in Canada. She trained for less than two years before being introduced as a member of SM Rookies in March 2014, contributing the song "Because I Love You" to the soundtrack for the drama Mimi. Wendy officially debuted as a member of Red Velvet on August 1, 2014. Over the following years, she participated in numerous musical collaborations and soundtrack recordings, including "Spring Love" with Eric Nam, an English version of Ricky Martin's "Vente Pa' Ca", and "Written in the Stars" with John Legend.

Alongside her musical career, Wendy expanded into broadcasting. She served as a panelist on television shows such as We Got Married and Trick & True, appeared on Saturday Night Live Korea, and hosted programs including K-Rush and Mysterious Record Shop. From 2021 to 2023, she hosted the radio program Wendy's Youngstreet. On December 25, 2019, Wendy suffered a severe stage accident during rehearsal for SBS Gayo Daejeon, sustaining pelvic fractures, a broken wrist, and facial injuries that required a hiatus from planned activities.

Wendy returned to live performances in January 2021 and made her official solo music debut on April 5, 2021, with the EP Like Water. In January 2022, she joined the supergroup Got the Beat. She made her theatrical debut in 2023 in the 10th-anniversary production of the musical Rebecca. In March 2024, Wendy released her second EP, Wish You Hell, and later featured on the song "Heart on the Window" by BTS member Jin.

In April 2025, SM Entertainment announced the end of Wendy's exclusive contract while confirming her continued participation in Red Velvet activities. She subsequently signed an exclusive contract with Asnd, started the web show Today is Wendy, and released her third EP, Cerulean Verge, in September 2025 before embarking on her "W:ealive" world tour. Beyond her performing career, Wendy has engaged in solo endorsements for brands including Dongwon Yangban Rice Porridge, L'Occitane Korea, and Pond's, and has donated to the Community Chest of Korea for COVID-19 relief and wildfire recovery.
