Beatriz was born in Neuquén, Argentina, on February 10, 1981, to a Colombian father and a Bolivian mother. She moved to the United States at age two alongside her parents and younger sister, growing up in Webster, Texas. She developed an interest in acting through speech and debate electives at Clear Brook High School. Beatriz became a United States citizen at age 18 and later attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, graduating in 2002 before moving to New York City to pursue her acting career.

Early in her career, Beatriz spent three seasons performing at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, appearing in productions such as A View From a Bridge, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Measure for Measure. She gained initial television experience with minor roles in The Closer and Southland, along with a recurring role as Sonia Ramirez in Modern Family. Her breakthrough came in 2013 when she was cast as Detective Rosa Diaz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a role she played across eight seasons, also directing a season six episode in 2019.

Beatriz starred as Bonnie in the 2017 independent film The Light of the Moon, which won the Audience Award for Narrative Feature Competition at the South by Southwest Film Festival. Her screen and voice work expanded to include roles such as Gina Cazador in BoJack Horseman, General Sweet Mayhem in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Carla in the 2021 film adaptation of In the Heights, and Mirabel Madrigal in Encanto. In 2023, she joined the cast of Twisted Metal as Quiet, and in 2024, she began voicing Vaggie in Hazbin Hotel and appeared as Barbara in the film Doin' It.

In addition to film and television, Beatriz has worked extensively in audio projects, starring in and executive producing the crime procedural podcast Tejana, starring in the sci-fi thriller podcast Solar, and hosting the podcast Twin Flames.
