Okamoto's interest in voice acting was inspired by his admiration for the character Rukawa from the anime series Slam Dunk, whom he wished to emulate. He launched his career in voice work and earned major industry recognition around the time he graduated from university. At the 3rd Seiyu Awards, he won the Best New Actor Award for his roles as Accelerator in A Certain Magical Index, Shin Kanzato in Persona: Trinity Soul, and Ryuji Kuhoin in Kure-nai.
His achievements continued at the 5th Seiyu Awards, where he received the Best Supporting Actor Award for his performances as Takumi Usui in Maid Sama!, Eiji Niizuma in Bakuman, and Accelerator in A Certain Magical Index. Following the closure of his previous agency Pro-Fit on March 31, 2022, Okamoto established and transferred to a new agency, Raccoon Dog, on April 1, 2022.
Over the course of his career, Okamoto has voiced numerous prominent roles in anime. His voice credits include Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia, Yū Nishinoya in Haikyu!!, Rin Okumura in Blue Exorcist, Karma Akabane in Assassination Classroom, Genya Shinazugawa in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and Ghiaccio in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Alongside his voice acting, Okamoto has pursued a musical career, contributing to anime insert songs and character tracks. On his twenty-fifth birthday, he announced that he would begin a musical career in 2012. He released his debut extended play, Palette, on May 23, 2012, reaching number nine on the weekly Oricon chart. He later released a second EP titled Enjoy Full on June 5, 2013, followed by his first single, Shunkan Beat, on March 19, 2014.
Outside of his performance career, Okamoto holds a 3rd Class Shogi Certification and has appeared at shogi and Pokémon events on Niconico. He enjoys playing badminton and video games in his spare time. From 2010 to 2015, he hosted the gaming radio show RADIO 4Gamer, which subsequently transitioned to RADIO 4Gamer Tap and continued broadcasting on the YouTube channel 4GamerSP with Okamoto as host.
In his personal life, Okamoto confirmed on March 21, 2020, that he is married to Asuka Ōgame. The announcement followed a publication by Shūkan Bunshun reporting claims regarding an extramarital affair, for which Okamoto issued an apology.
