Natalie Imbruglia

Natalie Jane Imbruglia is an Australian and British singer, songwriter, and actress. Born in New South Wales, she first achieved prominence in the early 1990s playing Beth Brennan on the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She subsequently relocated to the United Kingdom to launch a recording career. She gained widespread international fame following her 1997 debut single, a cover of the song "Torn", which topped the US Billboard Radio Songs Chart for eleven weeks and became a major worldwide hit.

Imbruglia was born on February 4, 1975, in Sydney to Maxene and Elliot Imbruglia. Raised in Berkeley Vale, New South Wales, she studied ballet, tap, and Highland dancing before completing her education at McDonald College. After appearing in commercials for Coca-Cola and Twisties, she left school at age 16 to pursue acting and secured her role on Neighbours. After two years on the show, she moved to London in 1994, where a demo recording led to a record deal with BMG and RCA Records.

Her debut album, Left of the Middle (1997), was a major commercial success, selling seven million copies worldwide and earning multi-platinum certifications in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. It included additional singles such as "Big Mistake" and "Wishing I Was There". She followed this with White Lilies Island in 2001, which sold one million copies and featured the single "Wrong Impression". Her third album, Counting Down the Days (2005), reached number one on the UK album chart and featured the successful single "Shiver".

In 2009, Imbruglia released her fourth studio album, Come to Life. Following a six-year hiatus from music, she returned in 2015 with Male, an album covering songs originally recorded by male artists. She released her sixth studio album, Firebird, in 2021 through BMG, supported by the single "Build It Better". In April 2026, she released "Upside Down" as the lead single for her album Algorithm.

Alongside her music career, Imbruglia has appeared in films such as Johnny English (2003), Closed for Winter (2009), Underdogs (2013), and Among Ravens (2014). She made her stage debut in 2014 in a UK production of Things We Do For Love. Her television appearances include serving as a judge on the second season of The X Factor Australia in 2010, winning the British version of The Masked Singer in 2022, and making a cameo appearance in the 2022 finale of Neighbours.

Imbruglia has sold over ten million album equivalent units worldwide. Her accolades include eight ARIA Awards, two Brit Awards, one Billboard Music Award, one Silver Clef Award, and three Grammy Award nominations. Outside of entertainment, she has modeled for brands such as L'Oreal, Gap, and Kailis, and has engaged in philanthropic efforts including work with Virgin Unite and campaigning for obstetric fistula awareness.
