Emilia Mernes

María Emilia Mernes, known mononymously as Emilia, is an Argentine singer, songwriter, model, and actress born on 29 October 1996. She first gained wide recognition as the lead vocalist of the Uruguayan cumbia pop band Rombai before launching a successful solo career as a pop and urban recording artist.

Raised in Nogoyá, Entre Ríos, Mernes developed a passion for music at age 12 after receiving a guitar from her grandfather. She pursued secondary studies at Colegio del Huerto in her hometown. In 2016, she briefly studied literature at the National University of Rosario before deciding to shift her focus entirely to music. She began uploading song covers to Instagram, which helped launch her musical path.

Mernes joined Rombai in 2016, replacing former singer Camila Rajchman. Alongside co-vocalist Fer Vázquez, she performed at venues including Estadio Luna Park and toured across Latin America. During her time with the group, she contributed to singles such as "Cuando se Pone A Bailar", "Sentí el Sabor", "Una y Otra Vez", "Besarte", and "Que Rico Baila". She left the group in 2018 to pursue a solo career.

In 2019, Mernes signed with Sony Music Latin and WK Entertainment. She released her debut solo single, "Recalienta", followed by collaborations such as "El Chisme", "No Soy Yo", and "Boomshakalaka". She performed at the Latin American Music Awards in late 2019. In 2020, she released singles including "Policía", "Histeriqueo", "Bendición", and "No Más", which became a major hit on Vevo DSCVR and was later remixed as "Já É Tarde (No Más)".

Her solo breakthrough accelerated in 2021 with "Como Si No Importara", a multi-Platinum collaboration with Argentine rapper Duki, followed by top-ten hits "Rápido Lento", "BB", and "De Enero a Diciembre". In May 2022, Mernes released her debut studio album, Tú Crees en Mí?, certified Platinum by CAPIF. Supported by singles like "Cuatro Veinte" and "Intoxicao", the album charted in Spain, while Mernes also released standalone tracks "La Chain" and "Underground".

In 2023, Mernes earned number-one hits on the Argentina Hot 100 with "En la Intimidad" and the supergroup track "Los del Espacio". She followed with her 2000s-influenced second studio album, .MP3, which reached number two in Argentina and featured the chart-topping collaboration "La Original" with Tini. Additional releases included "Jagger", "No Se Ve", "Guerrero", "GTA", and 2024 singles such as "La Playlist", "Carita Triste", and "Novio Gangsta".

Mernes' accolades include two Premios Gardel, a Premio Odeón, and an MTV MIAW Award, alongside nominations for Latin Grammy Awards, Heat Latin Music Awards, and Premios Juventud. In 2024, she performed at the 25th Latin Grammy Awards and announced a singing role in Moana 2. In her personal life, she dated musician Fer Vázquez from 2016 to 2018, and announced her relationship with rapper Duki in 2021.
