Calvin Harris

Adam Richard Wiles, born 17 January 1984, is a Scottish DJ, record producer, singer, and songwriter known professionally as Calvin Harris. He has also released music under the stage name Love Regenerator and early in his career under the name Stouffer. Harris is widely known for his commercial success in electronic dance music and holds the Official Charts Company record for the most number-one singles in the United Kingdom during the 2010s decade.

Born in Dumfries, Scotland, to English parents, Wiles grew up with an elder brother and sister. He attended Calside Primary School and Dumfries High School. In his teens, he developed an interest in electronic music and began recording bedroom demos in 1999. After completing school, he worked stocking supermarket shelves and in a local fish processing factory to save money for DJ gear. At age 18, he released his first club singles, "Da Bongos" and "Brighter Days." Following a brief move to London, he returned to Dumfries and shared homemade solo recordings on Myspace, which led to his discovery by management.

Harris signed record and publishing deals in 2006. His debut studio album, I Created Disco, was released in June 2007. Written, produced, and performed solely by Harris on an Amiga computer, the album featured commercially successful European and Australian singles including "Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls." His second studio album, Ready for the Weekend (2009), debuted at number one on the official album charts in Scotland and the United Kingdom. Its lead track, "I'm Not Alone," became his first UK number-one single. Although Harris sang lead vocals on most of his early tracks, he eventually ceased regular singing and live vocal performances to focus on music production.

Harris reached international prominence with his third studio album, 18 Months (2012). The release topped the UK Albums Chart and reached number 19 on the US Billboard 200, yielding nine top-ten UK singles and breaking Michael Jackson's record for the most top-ten singles from a single album. Around this period, he produced and collaborated on major hits for other artists, including producing Rihanna's single "We Found Love," which topped the charts in 27 countries and spent 10 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. His fourth studio album, Motion, followed in 2014, debuting atop the Scottish album chart and in the top five in both the UK and the US.

In 2017, Harris released his fifth studio album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, which reached number two in the UK and US while topping the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart. He released a sequel, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, in 2022. Across his career, Harris achieved several industry milestones, becoming the first UK solo artist to surpass one billion streams on Spotify and the first artist to place three songs simultaneously in the top 10 of Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

Throughout his career, Harris has received significant industry recognition, including 23 Brit Award nominations—winning British Producer of the Year and British Single of the Year in 2019—and five Grammy nominations, winning Best Music Video in 2013. He has also been awarded an Ivor Novello Award and was named Top Dance/Electronic Artist at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. In addition to appearing on Debrett's 2017 list of the UK's most influential people, he topped Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid DJs for six consecutive years from 2013 to 2018.
