Aoi Miyazaki

Aoi Miyazaki is a Japanese actress known for her roles in films such as Nana and Virgin Snow. Born on November 30, 1985, she began her career in the entertainment industry at four years old, initially appearing mostly in commercials, magazine advertisements, and as an extra in television dramas.

Miyazaki made her film debut in Ano Natsu no Hi at fourteen. That same year, she gained international attention for portraying the survivor of a traumatic bus hijack in Shinji Aoyama's film Eureka, which won the International Federation of Film Critics Prize at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and earned her the Best Actress award at the Japanese Professional Movie Awards. In 2003, she made her musical debut in The Little Prince.

Following her early film roles, Miyazaki earned the Best Actress award at the Cinemanila International Film Festival for her performance in Harmful Insect. She collaborated again with director Shinji Aoyama in Eli, Eli, Lema Sabachthani?, which was selected for Un Certain Regard at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. Later that year, she co-starred alongside Mika Nakashima in the commercially successful film Nana. In 2008, she earned the Galaxy Individual Award for her performance in the NHK drama Atsuhime.

In addition to acting, Miyazaki has maintained notable commercial endorsement work. She has appeared in commercials for major corporations, including Aflac, Tokyo Metro, NTT DoCoMo, and Olympus. In early 2008, she became a print advertisement model for Emporio Armani, and in 2010 she became the face of the popular Japanese apparel brand Earth music&ecology.

Miyazaki has also engaged in humanitarian projects and activism. In 2005, she traveled to Bangladesh with her older brother, actor Masaru Miyazaki, to experience poverty firsthand, documenting their findings in the 2006 photobook Tarinai Peace. The siblings traveled to Denmark and Finland in 2006 to study global warming, subsequently publishing their experiences in the 2007 photobooks Love, Peace, and Green Tarinai, Peace2. Additionally, she participated in the 2008 Gold Ribbon Walking event in Roppongi, Tokyo, to support childhood cancer awareness, and she starred in the 2008 film Children of the Dark, which focused on child exploitation.

In her personal life, Miyazaki married actor Sosuke Takaoka on June 15, 2007, after being partners since she was fifteen; the couple divorced in December 2011. On December 23, 2017, she married singer Junichi Okada following two and a half years of dating. The couple announced the birth of their first child, a son, in May 2018. In an August 2025 interview with the magazine Josei Seven, Miyazaki revealed she had given birth to her fourth child earlier that year, noting she had chosen not to publicly announce her second, third, and fourth pregnancies to avoid media attention.
