Yung Hurn

Julian Sellmeister, professionally known as Yung Hurn, is an Austrian hip-hop musician born on January 18, 1995. Originating from the Hirschstetten area in the Donaustadt district of Vienna, he is recognized for his musical projects and contributions to cloud rap. In addition to his primary moniker, he has performed under the alias K. Ronaldo since 2016, presenting the persona as a fictitious older brother, with the letter K standing for either Kristallo or Kristus. He was also part of the Berlin-based artist collective Live From Earth.

In his youth, Sellmeister played football for SV Hirschstetten until the U15 level. After dropping out of high school, he met the Viennese rapper Rap4Fikk in 2014 and began rapping shortly afterward. He began releasing music in 2015, collaborating with producer Lex Lugner on the EP Wiener Linien. In July 2015, he released his debut mixtape, 22. Its track "Nein" was voted among the top ten national music tracks of the year by readers of the German hip-hop magazine Juice.

Sellmeister continued releasing projects in 2016, including the Krocha Tape and the mixtape I Wanted to Kill Myself but Today is my Mothers Birthday under his K. Ronaldo alias. That same year, he collaborated with German rapper RIN on the independent single "Bianco", which was intended for a joint album titled Mafia der Liebe and was voted single of the year in the Juice annual charts. In December 2016, he released the compilation In Memory of Yung Hurn – Classic Compilation digitally, followed by a limited vinyl edition in June 2017.

In 2017, Yung Hurn released the EP Love Hotel along with the singles "Popo" and "Ok Cool". Although he announced via Twitter in June 2017 that he no longer wanted to rap after that year, he released the single "GGGut" in December 2017 and announced his debut studio album, 1220. Produced with DJ Stickle, the album was officially released on May 4, 2018. Prior to an appearance at the Donauinselfest in 2019, he released the single "Cabrio" and announced the album Y. He later released the Crazy Horse Club mixtape vol.1 in 2022.

Yung Hurn's musical style was initially categorized by journalists as cloud rap. He has cited a wide range of musical influences, including hip-hop acts such as Three 6 Mafia and Lil B, as well as indie music, deep dirty techno, psychedelic rock, Tame Impala, Falco, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles. With the release of the Love Hotel EP, he transitioned toward R&B and retro pop, forming the Love Hotel Band alongside Berlin actor Lars Eidinger.

Throughout his career, Yung Hurn's lyrics have drawn public criticism. In 2015, music outlet Noisey reported on statements associated with the BergMoneyGang circle. In 2022, the choir Schmusechor canceled a planned appearance at the Vienna Festival to avoid performing alongside him, citing objections to his lyrics. In 2023, the newspaper Die Presse reported on allegations made against him by rapper Kitana in her song "Kitana Season".
