Tom Odell

Thomas Peter Odell is an English singer-songwriter born on 24 November 1990. He is best known for his chart-topping debut studio album, Long Way Down, and successful singles such as "Another Love" and "Black Friday". Odell launched his recording career in 2012 with the release of his debut extended play, Songs from Another Love, which earned him a BRITs Critics' Choice Award. Over his career, he has earned an Ivor Novello Award and released multiple studio albums across major and independent record labels.

Odell was born in Chichester, West Sussex, England, to an airline pilot father and a primary school teacher mother. He grew up alongside an older sister and spent part of his childhood living in Auckland, New Zealand. He was educated at Bishop Luffa School and Seaford College in West Sussex, as well as attending school in New Zealand. During his school years, Odell wrote songs for a band that struggled to retain a lead singer, inspiring him to sing his own material. At age 18, he pursued music performance, traveling to London to play shows and studying at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music before becoming a solo artist.

Discovered by label head Lily Allen, Odell signed with the Columbia Records imprint In the Name Of. Following his 2012 debut EP and a television performance on Later... with Jools Holland, he became the first male artist to win the BRITs Critics' Choice Award in 2013. His debut studio album, Long Way Down, was released in June 2013 and reached number one on the UK Official Chart. In 2014, he received the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year, and his cover of The Beatles' "Real Love" reached the UK top ten. He subsequently released his second studio album, Wrong Crowd, in June 2016.

Odell released his third studio album, Jubilee Road, in October 2018, inspired by his past community in east London. His fourth album, Monsters, arrived in July 2021, incorporating darker electro-pop elements and lyrics addressing personal struggles with anxiety and panic attacks. In 2022, Odell became an independent artist, releasing his fifth album, Best Day of My Life, followed by Black Friday in January 2024. The latter featured the breakout track "Black Friday", which became one of his most successful singles. In September 2025, he released his seventh studio album, A Wonderful Life.

Odell's musical style is influenced by artists such as Elton John, David Bowie, Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, and Leonard Cohen, with lyrics drawn from his personal relationships and experiences. His music has featured widely across film and television, including shows like The 100, The Blacklist, and The Vampire Diaries, and the movie The Fault in Our Stars. He has also engaged in humanitarian activism, performing in support of Choose Love, Amnesty International, and relief efforts for Ukraine. In November 2023, he married model and artist Georgina Odell (née Somerville).
