Sunny Anderson

Sunny Anderson is an American television personality and chef, best known for her work as a host and presenter on the Food Network. Born on April 9, 1975, in Lawton, Oklahoma, she spent her childhood traveling internationally as part of a military family. Her upbringing exposed her to diverse regional cuisines through her parents, who were food enthusiasts. She attended Madison High School in San Antonio, Texas, before joining the United States Air Force in June 1993. During her military service, which lasted until her honorable discharge in June 1997, she reached the rank of Senior Airman and worked as a military radio host in Seoul, South Korea, as well as for the Air Force News Agency radio and television in San Antonio. She also attended Loyola University in New Orleans.

Following her military service, Anderson pursued a career in radio broadcast between 1995 and 2001, working as a radio personality across stations in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Michigan, including KCJZ, KONO-FM, WYLD-FM, KUMX, WJWZ, and WDTJ. In 2001, at age 26, she moved to New York City and worked as a radio host for HOT 97 (WQHT) until 2003. She subsequently transitioned into the culinary industry, owning and operating Sunny's Delicious Dishes, a catering business located in Jersey City, New Jersey, from 2003 to 2005. She also worked as the food and lifestyle editor for Hip Hop Weekly magazine in 2006 and 2007.

Anderson made her initial television appearance on the Food Network in October 2005 as a guest on Emeril Live. Her hosting career on the network expanded in April 2007 when she began co-hosting the show Gotta Get It alongside Marc Istook. In April 2008, she began hosting Cooking for Real, followed by the launch of How'd That Get On My Plate? in July 2008.

In January 2014, Anderson joined the Food Network series The Kitchen as a co-host alongside Jeff Mauro, Katie Lee, Marcela Valladolid, and Geoffrey Zakarian. Her work on the series earned her and her fellow cast members a nomination for the 44th Daytime Emmy Awards in the category of Outstanding Talk Show/Informative. Over the course of her career, she has made guest chef appearances on numerous national television broadcasts and talk shows, including The Rachael Ray Show, Good Morning America, The Early Show, The View, The Talk, and The Wendy Williams Show.

Anderson has continued to host various programs for the Food Network. In 2022, she hosted NFL Tailgate Takedown with Vince Wilfork, and in October of that same year, she hosted the third season of Outrageous Pumpkins.

Outside of her broadcasting and culinary career, Anderson was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 19. In 2014, she partnered with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America to help raise public awareness about the disease.
