Summer Walker

Summer Marjani Walker, born April 11, 1996, is an American singer and songwriter. She is best known for her contributions to contemporary R&B, having achieved widespread recognition following her signing with the Atlanta-based record label Love Renaissance, an imprint of Interscope Records, in late 2017. Her debut commercial mixtape, Last Day of Summer, was released in 2018 and featured the lead single "Girls Need Love." A subsequent remix featuring Canadian rapper Drake gave Walker her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Walker was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. From 2016 to 2018, she operated a small cleaning business. During this period, she taught herself to play the guitar by watching online tutorials on YouTube and subsequently began posting cover performances to both YouTube and Vine. She was discovered on Vine by a studio manager from Love Renaissance, which led to her signing with the label and Interscope Records.

In January 2019, Walker released her debut acoustic EP, titled Clear, followed by her debut studio album, Over It, in October 2019. Supported by the lead single "Playing Games," Over It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and set a record at the time for the largest streaming debut week for a female R&B artist. The album topped the R&B Albums chart for 14 nonconsecutive weeks and eventually received a triple platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In July 2020, she released her second EP, Life on Earth, which debuted atop the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart.

Walker released her second studio album, Still Over It, in November 2021. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, breaking her previous streaming record for a female R&B artist's debut week and establishing a single-day streaming record for a female artist on Apple Music. The project yielded the singles "Ex for a Reason" and "No Love," and matched a Billboard Hot 100 record by having 18 concurrent songs from a single album on the chart. She later released her third studio album, Finally Over It, in November 2025.

Throughout her career, Walker has collaborated with numerous high-profile artists. She featured on Kendrick Lamar's track "Purple Hearts," Ciara's single "Better Thangs," and Usher's single "Good Good" alongside 21 Savage. Her industry accolades include a Billboard Music Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award, three Soul Train Music Awards, and the Chart Breaker Award at the 2022 Billboard Women in Music ceremony, as well as four Grammy Award nominations. Across her music catalog, she has accumulated over 53.5 million certified units from the RIAA.

Walker cites a variety of musical influences, including Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, Donell Jones, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, and D'Angelo. In her personal life, she has three children: a daughter born in March 2021 and twin boys born in December 2022.
