Halle Bailey

Halle Lynn Bailey, also known mononymously as Halle, is an American singer-songwriter and actress born on March 27, 2000. She initially rose to prominence as part of the musical duo Chloe x Halle alongside her sister Chloe Bailey. Together, the pair earned five Grammy Award nominations and released two studio albums. As a solo artist, Bailey released her debut single in 2023 and her debut studio album in 2025. She is also recognized for her acting career, including main television roles and major film appearances.

Bailey was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Mableton, Georgia, with her sisters Ski and Chloe and brother Branson, before moving to Los Angeles in mid-2012. Her father, Doug Bailey, began teaching her to write songs when she was eight years old. She and her sister also taught themselves to play instruments by watching YouTube tutorials. Bailey's vocal style was heavily influenced by jazz and singer Billie Holiday from an early age, and she plays the guitar.

Her acting career began at age three, with early minor roles in films such as Joyful Noise and the Disney television film Let It Shine in 2012. Performing with her sister as Chloe x Halle, they gained attention by posting song covers on YouTube. After appearing on The Ellen Show and winning Season 5 of Radio Disney's The Next Big Thing, the duo signed a five-year contract with Parkwood Entertainment in 2016. That year, they released their debut EP Sugar Symphony, appeared in Beyoncé's Lemonade visual album, and served as an opening act for the European leg of Beyoncé's Formation World Tour.

Chloe x Halle released the mixtape The Two of Us in 2017 and their debut studio album, The Kids Are Alright, in March 2018. The album earned two Grammy Award nominations. In 2020, they released their second album, Ungodly Hour, which debuted at number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart and featured their first Billboard Hot 100 entry, "Do It". The duo hosted the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in 2020 and performed at events including Super Bowl LIII, the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, and the 2020 NFL kickoff game.

As an actress, Bailey starred as Skylar "Sky" Forster on the television series Grown-ish from 2018 to 2022. In 2023, she had her first lead film role playing Ariel in Disney's live-action musical fantasy film The Little Mermaid, performing on its soundtrack and earning several award nominations. That same year, she starred as young Nettie in the musical drama film The Color Purple, winning an NAACP Image Award as part of the ensemble cast.

Bailey launched her solo musical career in August 2023 with the release of her debut single "Angel", which was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. She followed with the singles "In Your Hands" and "Because I Love You" in 2024. On October 24, 2025, she released her debut solo studio album, Love?... or Something Like It.

In her personal life, Bailey was in a relationship with rapper DDG from December 2021 until their separation in October 2024. They have one son, born in December 2023. In May 2025, Bailey was granted a restraining order against DDG following allegations of abuse, along with temporary custody of their child.
