Sibyl Buck

Sibyl Buck is an American rock musician and fashion model born on May 27, 1972, in Versailles, France. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Virginia in the United States, where she was raised. During her time at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, she cultivated a punk rock style characterized by flannels, ripped jeans, Doc Martens, and piercings. Although a local photographer initially convinced her to adopt a more natural look for modeling, she later embraced her rock aesthetic after moving to Paris, where she dyed her hair bright red.

Her distinct look initially led to lost opportunities, including a $20,000 campaign for Nina Ricci, but her commitment to her style ultimately paid off. She became a favorite model for Jean Paul Gaultier and went on to work for numerous major fashion houses, including Chanel, Yves Saint-Laurent, Alexander McQueen, and Perry Ellis.

In addition to her print and runway modeling, Buck expanded into television and film during the 1990s. She became a presenter for MTV's show The Pulse in 1995. Two years later, she appeared in the 1997 feature film The Fifth Element, playing the role of Zorg's personal assistant.

Buck paused her modeling career in 1998 when she became a mother and shifted her focus to playing rock music. She sang and played bass guitar in the band Champions of Sound alongside Sergio Vega and Chris Traynor. In 2007, she joined Joseph Arthur's backing band, The Lonely Astronauts, playing bass and recording on his albums Let's Just Be, Temporary People, and The Graduation Ceremony. She also filled in on bass for Corey Britz during several show dates with the rock band Bush in 2012.

In her personal life, Buck moved to Topanga Canyon in 2008 and worked as a full-time yoga instructor. She has a daughter named Puma Rose, who is also a model.

Buck returned to the runway in 2022 after being flown from Topanga to walk in the S/S23 show for The Row, which also led to a booking for a Jean Paul Gaultier television commercial. During the S/S23 season, she walked for brands including Miu Miu, Thom Browne, and Vivienne Westwood. She has continued her work on the catwalk for labels such as Germanier and Uma Wang, while actively performing as a musician with the band High Desert Fires, appearing on their debut album Light Is the Revelation.
