Satomi Ishihara

Satomi Ishihara, born Kuniko Ishigami on December 24, 1986, in Tokyo, Japan, is a Japanese actress. She attended Tokyo Soka Elementary School, Soka Junior High School, and graduated from Soka High School before beginning her professional career.

Ishihara started her acting career in 2003 at the age of 16 with her appearance in the television drama Kimi wa Petto. Throughout her career, she has divided her time between film and television productions. Early roles included appearing as Yazawa Shiori in the Fuji TV drama Water Boys 2 in 2004 and portraying Shizuka Gozen in the 2005 NHK Taiga drama series Yoshitsune.

In 2006, Ishihara earned her first starring role in a Fuji TV commercial drama series with Ns' Aoi, and she made her stage debut playing Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker later that autumn. Her stage work continued in August 2008 as Okita Souji in Bakumatsu Junjoden. The following month, she starred as JAL flight attendant Yukari Hayase in the film Flying Rabbits. She went on to appear in the 2009 Fuji TV drama series Voice: The Voice of the Innocent as Kanako Kuboaki, the stage production Suite: Massacre as Takiko Taguchi, and the 2010 NHK special war drama series Clouds Above the Hill as Akiyama Tokiko.

Ishihara gained further popularity in 2014 through her portrayal of Saeko Takahashi in Shitsuren Chocolatier, alongside starring as Misaki Fukazawa in the romantic comedy series Dear Sister. In 2016, she played Kayoko Ann Patterson in the kaiju film Shin Godzilla and starred as Etsuko Kouno in the NTV drama series Pretty Proofreader. Her television lead roles continued in 2018 with Mikoto Misumi in the TBS drama Unnatural and Momo Tsukishima in NTV's Born to Be a Flower. In 2024, she starred as Saori Morishita in the drama film Missing.

Across her career, Ishihara has earned several award recognitions. She was nominated for Best Actress at the 46th Blue Ribbon Awards for her role in the film My Grandpa, and later earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize for And so the baton is passed. For her lead performance in Missing, she received nominations for a Hochi Film Award and a Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Actress.

Outside of performing, Ishihara was appointed as one of the official torch relay ambassadors for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics in early 2019. In her personal life, she announced her marriage on October 1, 2020, to a spouse outside the entertainment industry, and the couple has two children, born in 2022 and 2025.
