Phillip Schofield

Phillip Bryan Schofield is an English television presenter who became one of the most prominent broadcast personalities in the United Kingdom. He is best known for his long-running hosting roles on major series such as the ITV daytime show This Morning, the reality competition Dancing on Ice, the game show The Cube, and Children's BBC continuity programming during the 1980s.

Schofield was born on 1 April 1962 in Oldham, Lancashire, and moved to Newquay, Cornwall, at the age of eighteen months. His father, Brian H. Schofield, worked for a company that made surfboards, and his mother was Pat Schofield. He attended Trenance Infant School and Newquay Tretherras School. Schofield began his media involvement at age 15 on Hospital Radio Plymouth, and at 17 he became a bookings clerk and tea boy for BBC Radio at Broadcasting House in London.

At age 19, Schofield moved with his family to New Zealand, where he made his television presenting debut on the youth music show Shazam! in 1982 and worked for the Auckland radio station Radio Hauraki. Returning to Britain in 1985, he became the first in-vision continuity presenter for Children's BBC, hosting from "The Broom Cupboard" alongside the puppet character Gordon the Gopher until 1987. He subsequently presented the Saturday morning series Going Live! from 1987 to 1993, as well as the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party. During the 1990s and early 2000s, his work expanded to adult-orientated broadcasts including Talking Telephone Numbers, One in a Million, National Lottery Winning Lines, and Test the Nation.

In 2002, Schofield joined ITV's daytime show This Morning, co-hosting initially with Fern Britton and later presenting alongside Holly Willoughby from 2009 until May 2023. After signing an exclusive contract with ITV in 2006, he presented several of the network's flagship entertainment programmes. These included Dancing on Ice, the game show The Cube, All Star Mr & Mrs, 5 Gold Rings, and The British Soap Awards from 2006 to 2023. He also co-hosted charity specials such as Text Santa and led ITV's coverage of major British royal events between 2011 and 2022.

Schofield was married for 27 years to Stephanie Lowe, with whom he appeared in the 2016 series Schofield's South African Adventure. In February 2020, Schofield publicly came out as gay and separated from his wife. In May 2023, he admitted to having engaged in an extramarital affair with a young male ITV co-worker. Following media coverage of the admission, Schofield resigned from ITV, was removed as an ambassador for the Prince's Trust, and was dropped by his talent agency after more than 35 years of representation.
