Mayra Verónica

Mayra Verónica Aruca Rodríguez is a Cuban-American singer, actress, model, and television public figure who was born in Havana, Cuba. Her father was a member of the Cuban rock band Los Dada. At the age of six, she moved to Miami with her mother. She later attended Florida International University, majoring in psychology with a minor in business and theater. After winning the local Ms. Miami beauty pageant, she secured a modeling agent and auditioned for the news show Miami Hoy. She was subsequently promoted from correspondent to celebrity hostess, interviewing figures such as Donald Trump, Oscar de la Renta, Hugh Hefner, Marc Anthony, and Dennis Rodman.

After graduating from college, Verónica moved to New York City to study full time at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She starred in feature roles for PBS productions and films including Tumbe, The Suitor, and National Lampoon's Pledge This!. She also appeared in commercial campaigns for L'Oréal, Coca-Cola, and Nike. She gained widespread public recognition when she was cast as a model and co-host on Univision's television show Don Francisco Presenta.

Verónica's television exposure led to extensive modeling opportunities. FHM featured her on the cover of its exclusive collection book alongside notable sex symbols of the decade, and she was named to FHM's Sexiest Women in the World list every year from 2004 to 2010. She appeared on over 100 national and international covers, including Billboard, Maxim, Shape, GQ, Edge, and Cosmo. Her biweekly website traffic reached more than four million hits, driven in part by a strong following among United States military personnel.

Her popularity with military service members led to an official partnership with the USO. Verónica embarked on Thanksgiving USO tours to countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, Turkey, Africa, and Greenland alongside military leaders and entertainers. She dedicated proceeds from a 2008 calendar to the Wounded Warrior Project, served as an official USO spokeswoman, participated in a C-SPAN panel with President George W. Bush, and rang the NASDAQ bell on behalf of the USO and UNICEF.

In 2007, Verónica launched her music career with her reggaetón debut album Vengo Con To through Univision Network. Her chart success landed her a deal with Universal Motown, leading to singles like Es Tan Dificil Olvidarte. Her 2010 single If You Wanna Fly reached top-ten positions on Billboard dance charts, followed by Freak Like Me and her 2012 album Saint Nor Sinner. In 2013, her single Ay Mama Mia reached number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Verónica signed worldwide deals with BMG Chrysalis, Simon Cowell's Syco Music, and Warner Bros. Records. Her musical career expanded with releases such as MAMA YO! with The Sweet Life Society, No Boyfriend No Problem with Sak Noel, and Party Crasher with Nils Van Zandt. Following the pandemic, she released the singles VEN and Que Mas in 2022. Outside of performing, she serves as a USO spokeswoman and founded MVA Entertainment Group to manage and promote independent music artists.
