Paulina Rubio

Paulina Susana Rubio Dosamantes, born June 17, 1971, in Mexico City, is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and television personality. Commonly referred to as "The Golden Girl," she first achieved recognition as a founding member of the pop group Timbiriche before establishing a successful solo career. She has sold over 15 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time.

Rubio was born to Enrique Rubio González, a Spanish-born lawyer, and Susana Dosamantes, a prominent Mexican actress. Raised in an artistic environment between Mexico, Los Angeles, and Europe, she attended the Centro de Educación Artística in Mexico in 1980, where she trained in singing, acting, jazz, painting, and dance. She made an early film appearance in El Día del Compadre before being selected to join a new children's musical group.

In 1982, Rubio debuted with the children's pop band Timbiriche on the television show Siempre en Domingo. She performed with the group through the 1980s, releasing successful albums such as Timbiriche, Disco Ruido, and Timbiriche Rock Show, as well as starring in the 1984 musical theater adaptation Vaselina. The group achieved massive commercial success with albums like Timbiriche VII and Timbiriche VIII & IX, where Rubio featured prominently on the number-one hit single "Acelerar." She also made her television acting debut in the 1988 telenovela Pasión y Poder before departing the group in 1990.

In 1992, Rubio starred in the telenovela Baila Conmigo and launched her solo recording career. Signed to Capitol Latin, she released her debut single "Mío," which topped Mexican charts and entered the US Billboard Hot Latin Tracks. Her debut solo album, La Chica Dorada (1992), and its follow-up, 24 Kilates (1993), established her as EMI Latin's best-selling Mexican female artist. She subsequently released El Tiempo Es Oro (1995), starred in the feature film Bésame en la Boca (1995), and released Planeta Paulina (1996).

Rubio signed with Universal Latino and released her fifth album, Paulina, in 2000. It achieved major international success and led her to become Billboard's best-selling Latin music artist of 2001. She maintained chart success with the English-crossover album Border Girl (2002) and Pau-Latina (2004), which earned her nominations for both Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards. Her subsequent releases included Ananda (2006), Gran City Pop (2009), the EDM-influenced Brava! (2011), and Deseo (2018).

Alongside her recording career, Rubio became a prominent television personality in the 2010s. She served as a coach on La Voz... Mexico in 2012, La Voz Kids in 2013, and a judge on The X Factor USA in 2013. In 2019, she returned as a coach for La Voz... España and La Voz Senior.

Throughout her career, Rubio has earned three number-one albums on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and five number-one singles on US Billboard Hot Latin Songs. Her accolades include seven Billboard Latin Music Awards, five Lo Nuestro Awards, three MTV Latinoamerica Awards, and two Telehit Awards, including the Trajectory Award. She has also been named among the most powerful women in Mexico by Forbes Mexico and among the greatest Latin artists of all time by Billboard.
