Luísa Sonza

Luísa Gerloff Sonza, born on 18 July 1998, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter. She is of Italian and German descent. Sonza gained widespread visibility in 2016 by posting cover songs on her YouTube channel, earning the nickname "Queen of Covers." Beyond her recording career, she has acted in several television productions and co-hosted the HBO Max program Queen Stars alongside Pabllo Vittar.

Sonza began her musical pursuits at age seven, singing at a Gaucho folklore community centre in her hometown. Shortly after, she was hired as a child vocalist by the music group Sol Maior, remaining with the ensemble for ten years. During this period, she performed in up to 24 concerts a month before average crowds of approximately 5,000 people. She launched her YouTube cover channel in 2014 to build her online presence.

In May 2017, Sonza signed a record deal with Universal Music Group and released her debut single, "Good Vibes." She followed this with "Olhos Castanhos," a song written for her then-husband Whindersson Nunes. Later that year, she released her self-titled debut extended play, which featured the song "Não Preciso de Você Pra Nada" with Luan Santana. In early 2018, her single "Rebolar" reached the top spot on YouTube, and her single "Devagarinho" entered Spotify's Brazil Top 50 chart.

Alongside her music releases, Sonza expanded into television acting. In June 2018, she made a guest appearance playing the character Julinha in an episode of the sitcom Dra. Darci. Later that year, soap opera writer Aguinaldo Silva invited her to record "Nunca Foi Sorte" for the soundtrack of the telenovela O Sétimo Guardião, in which she also made a guest appearance. In 2019, she issued her debut studio album, Pandora.

Sonza released her second studio album, Doce 22, in July 2021, supported by singles including "VIP," "Melhor Sozinha," and "Também Não Sei de Nada" featuring Lulu Santos. That same year, she was featured alongside Bruno Martini on a remix of Katy Perry's song "Cry About It Later," and she hosted the five-episode program Prazer, Sonza on Multishow. In May 2022, she signed a US$20 million recording contract with Sony Music Brazil to support an international career.

In August 2023, Sonza released her third studio album, Escândalo Íntimo, featuring a collaboration with Demi Lovato on the track "Penhasco2." Netflix Brazil subsequently announced the production of a documentary series covering her career trajectory and personal life. Her notable live appearances include performing at the online NYC Pride March in 2020 and singing the Brazilian National Anthem at an NFL International Series game in São Paulo in September 2024.

Sonza was married to YouTuber Whindersson Nunes from February 2018 until their divorce in April 2020. Openly bisexual, she has publicly advocated for women's rights; in September 2020, joint protests by Sonza and Anitta prompted Oxford Languages and Google to reassess misogynistic definitions of Brazilian Portuguese words. Following a 2020 lawsuit regarding a September 2018 incident involving lawyer Isabel Macedo de Jesus, Sonza issued a public apology in October 2022 acknowledging structural racism and agreed to settle the matter.
