Lee Evans

Lee Evans is an English former stand-up comedian, actor, musician, and writer. Born in Avonmouth, Bristol, in 1964, he established himself as one of the United Kingdom's most popular and commercially successful live comedy acts. He gained national recognition for his hyperactive visual style, combining sweat-drenched physical slapstick, observational humor, and vocal impressions.

Evans began his career performing on the British club circuit in the late 1980s before winning the Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1993. Over the following two decades, he built a massive live audience, filling arenas across the country. His stand-up tours, including Big and Roadrunner, set sales records, while several of his live show recordings became major commercial successes on home video and DVD.

In addition to his stand-up career, Evans built a film and television acting resume. He made his feature film debut in Funny Bones (1995) and went on to land prominent roles in Hollywood comedies such as Mouse Hunt (1997) and There's Something About Mary (1998), as well as sci-fi and action films like The Fifth Element (1997) and The Medallion (2003). On British television, he starred in the sitcom Lee Evans: So What Now? and appeared in various drama and comedy roles.

In November 2014, Evans announced his retirement from stand-up comedy to focus on his personal life and family. Although he has largely maintained his step back from large-scale touring, he has made occasional selective public appearances and stage performances in theatre productions.
