Kathryn McCormick

Kathryn McCormick is an American dancer and actress born on July 7, 1990. She is best known for her achievements in televised dance competitions, as well as her starring roles in feature dance films. She gained broad national recognition after competing on the sixth season of the reality competition show So You Think You Can Dance, where she finished in third place, marking the highest placement for a female contestant during that season.

McCormick began dancing at three years old at Dance Connection, a studio owned by her mother. She later continued her dance education at Augusta West Studio, where her mother, Sandra Schmieden, had also previously studied. Upon turning eighteen years old, McCormick relocated to Los Angeles to pursue professional opportunities in dance and acting.

Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, McCormick secured a non-leading role in the feature film remake of Fame. Following her breakthrough performance on season six of So You Think You Can Dance, she returned to the franchise as one of the featured all-stars for seasons seven through thirteen. She also competed on So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, where she placed third alongside fellow contestant Tate McRae.

McCormick transitioned into primary feature film roles when she played a leading role in the 2012 dance movie Step Up Revolution. In 2014, she starred in the film Dance-Off opposite Shane Harper. Throughout her career, McCormick has also appeared in high-profile music videos, including the visual for Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts" and as the featured female dancer in Muse's video for "Dead Inside." Additionally, she appeared as a guest performer on Dancing with the Stars on November 20, 2012, and April 7, 2014.

In 2015, McCormick and her husband at the time, Jacob Patrick, released the documentary film Like Air. McCormick intended the film to bring attention to a more optimistic perspective on competitive dance, focusing on her mentorship of three proteges from Dance Makers INC as they trained to participate in the DanceMakers Nationals.

McCormick continues to tour with the Dance Makers INC dance convention and competition. She also works actively in dance education, serving as a contemporary dance instructor and faculty member at CLI Studios.
