About Tate McRae

Tate Rosner McRae is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and dancer. Born in Calgary, Alberta, she first received broad public attention as a contestant on the American television competition series So You Think You Can Dance in 2016. She later established a successful recording career after signing with RCA Records in 2019, achieving international prominence with hit singles such as "You Broke Me First" and "Greedy".

McRae was born on July 1, 2003, to a dance instructor and a lawyer. Because of her father's employment, she spent three years of her early childhood living in Oman and attending school there before returning to Calgary at age eight. She began taking dance lessons at six and later undertook intensive training in multiple dance styles and ballet, attending the School of Alberta Ballet and her mother's studio. She graduated online from Western Canada High School in 2021.

Before focusing on music, McRae accumulated major accomplishments as a dancer, becoming the first competitor to win Best Female Dancer titles in the mini, junior, and teen categories at the Dance Awards. She also appeared in music videos, voiced an animated character for the Lalaloopsy franchise, and placed third on So You Think You Can Dance as its highest-finishing Canadian participant. In 2017, she began sharing original songs on YouTube. Her self-released debut single, "One Day", gained millions of views and earned a gold certification in Canada.

Following her signing with RCA Records in 2019, McRae released her debut extended play, All the Things I Never Said, in 2020. Her musical profile expanded significantly that same year with the release of "You Broke Me First", an international hit that spent 38 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2021, she released her second EP, Too Young to Be Sad, which became Spotify's most-streamed EP by a female artist that year and earned two Juno Award nominations.

In May 2022, McRae released her debut studio album, I Used to Think I Could Fly, which reached number three in Canada. She adopted a more pop-oriented sound on her 2023 follow-up album, Think Later, which debuted in the top five of the US Billboard 200. Its lead single, "Greedy", topped the Billboard Global 200 chart and peaked at number three in the United States. In 2025, her third album, So Close to What, reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and produced multiple top-ten international hits.

McRae's career recognitions include winning Juno Awards for Artist of the Year and Single of the Year, alongside receiving a Grammy Award nomination for her soundtrack single "Just Keep Watching". She scored her first US number-one single in 2025 as a featured artist on Morgan Wallen's track "What I Want". Beyond her music releases, she has secured endorsement partnerships with brands including Maybelline and Essentia Water.
