Joe Robinet

Joe Robinet is a Canadian YouTuber, outdoorsman, and bushcraft practitioner known for his backcountry camping, wilderness canoe trips, and outdoor survival content. Born on June 22, 1984, in Windsor, Ontario, Robinet gained widespread recognition for sharing unscripted, authentic wilderness experiences on his self-titled YouTube channel. He has amassed a global audience of over 1.5 million subscribers by documenting solo adventures, shelter building, cold-weather camping, and primitive survival techniques.

Early Life and Background

Growing up in Windsor, Ontario, Robinet developed a strong interest in the natural world through outdoor television programs and survival literature. Inspired by prominent outdoorsmen such as Les Stroud and Ray Mears, he began practicing wilderness skills during his teenage years, building natural shelters and studying tracking techniques. He formally pursued his passion for nature by studying Park Operations at Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. During his college education, he received formal instruction in tree identification, wilderness navigation, wildlife tracking, and snow shelter construction, which provided a solid foundation for his future career.

Career and Content Creation

Robinet created his YouTube channel in September 2007, initially producing short instructional videos on bushcraft methods and gear reviews. Over time, he transitioned to story-driven, long-form adventure vlogs documenting multi-day canoe trips and backcountry camping across Northern Ontario and other remote regions of Canada. His profile expanded significantly following his appearance on the first season of the History Channel reality television series Alone in 2015, in which ten survivalists were dropped into the isolated wilderness of Vancouver Island. Although an accidental gear loss forced an early departure, the appearance brought widespread attention to his channel. He later established Robinet Outfitters, a brand offering specialized outdoor gear and apparel to camping enthusiasts.

Personal Life

Robinet lives in Ontario, Canada, with his wife and children. His family members, along with his canine companions—including his famous late dog Scout, as well as Tripper and Wolf—frequently feature in his videos. In addition to creating digital content, Robinet authored an autobiography documenting his life journey, outdoor accomplishments, and personal reflections on his career in bushcraft.
