Jeff Thorman

Jeff Thorman is a Canadian contractor, online educator, and content creator best known as the host and founder of the popular YouTube channel Home RenoVision DIY. With over two decades of professional general contracting experience, Thorman transitioned into full-time digital video production in 2016 to share accessible, step-by-step home renovation tutorials. His instructional content covers a wide array of trade skills, ranging from drywall installation and bathroom remodels to basement finishing, carpentry, and tool reviews, empowering millions of homeowners worldwide to tackle DIY projects safely and cost-effectively.

Early Life and Contractor Background

Born in Ontario, Canada, Thorman developed an interest in construction and woodworking at an early age while assisting his father with home remodeling and property flipping projects. Learning hands-on trade skills from his family laid the foundation for his future career in the building industry. He eventually spent over 25 years working as a general contractor, completing diverse residential remodeling projects and spending seven years specializing in fire and flood restoration. These experiences gave him comprehensive technical knowledge across plumbing, electrical work, framing, and interior renovation.

YouTube Success and Home RenoVision DIY

In April 2016, Thorman officially launched the Home RenoVision DIY YouTube channel to bridge the gap between professional contractors and everyday DIY enthusiasts. The platform quickly gained momentum due to his practical, easy-to-follow explanations, transparent cost breakdowns, and emphasis on local building safety codes. Over the years, the channel expanded to include full series such as room-by-room renovations, product comparisons, and emergency restoration guides—including a dedicated series created to assist Texas residents following severe winter storm damage in 2021. Today, Home RenoVision DIY boasts over four million YouTube subscribers and hundreds of millions of views.

Business Ventures and Media Presence

Beyond main YouTube uploads, Thorman operates a broader media presence alongside his wife, Michelle Thorman, who co-produces and manages design staging for their projects. The brand features a dedicated website offering member-exclusive Q&A sessions, digital resources, educational newsletters, and branded merchandise. Thorman also shares concise home improvement tips, tool demonstrations, and short-form video tutorials across Instagram and TikTok, establishing himself as one of North America's most recognizable digital influencers in the home improvement space.
