Davina McCall

Davina Lucy Pascale McCall, born 16 October 1967, is an English television presenter. She is best known for hosting Channel 4's Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother from 2000 to 2010. Over her career, McCall has presented numerous entertainment, game, and factual programmes, including Streetmate, The Million Pound Drop, Long Lost Family, and The Masked Singer UK. Her work in the 2020s has focused significantly on factual documentaries concerning women's health, menopause, and relationships.

McCall was born in Wimbledon, London, to a French mother, Florence, and an English father, Andrew McCall. After her parents separated, she went to live with her paternal grandparents in Surrey at the age of three. She attended St Catherine's School, Bramley and Godolphin and Latymer School, studying for nine O levels and two A levels. In adulthood, McCall sought therapy to address a difficult relationship with her mother.

Before entering television, McCall worked for Models 1 and in hospitality and London's nightclub scene. After overcoming drug and alcohol addiction and becoming sober in her mid-twenties, she pursued broadcasting work and secured an audition with MTV Europe. In the late 1990s, she gained wider public recognition while hosting the Channel 4 dating show Streetmate.

In 2000, McCall was selected to host the inaugural series of Big Brother, presenting its live eviction shows as well as Celebrity Big Brother starting in 2001. She hosted entertainment shows such as Popstars: The Rivals, The Vault, and charity telethons Comic Relief and Sport Relief. In 2005, she hosted the BBC One chat show Davina, which ran for eight episodes but was poorly received and not recommissioned. She remained with Big Brother until Channel 4 ended its run in 2010.

Following Big Brother, McCall transitioned toward game shows and emotionally driven factual programming. She presented Channel 4's The Million Pound Drop starting in 2010, alongside Sky1's Got to Dance, ITV's The Biggest Loser, This Time Next Year, and Channel 4's The Jump. Hosting Long Lost Family marked a shift in her career toward factual series focusing on personal stories and lifestyle changes.

In the 2020s, McCall became a judge on The Masked Singer UK and fronted health and relationship documentaries, including Davina McCall: Sex, Myths and the Menopause, Davina McCall's Pill Revolution, and My Mum, Your Dad. She launched the podcast Begin Again in 2024 and was announced as the host of the BBC dating series Stranded on Honeymoon Island in 2025. Her documentary work contributed to wider public discussions around menopause in the United Kingdom.

McCall was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2023 for services to broadcasting and received the Special Recognition award at the National Television Awards in 2024. Outside television, she has published several books, including Menopausing, which won Overall Book of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2023. She has three children from her marriage to Matthew Robertson, and married Michael Douglas in December 2025. McCall holds both British and French citizenship.
